My dad just got his CCW and is looking for a good pistol to carry as opposed to my full size Baby Eagle he's practiced with at the range.

He wants something in 9mm.

He really likes the 1911 grip/feel.

So far, we've looked at Kimber, STI and some Sigs, which he liked.

He's tried all the Glocks, Springfield XD, polymerpalooza that there is out there and didn't care for any of them.

Any other recommendations for him in something that feels like a 1911? (please don't say 45 caliber...I've already tried to convince him to go with a 45 if he likes the 1911, but he really likes the 9mm)

My dad's after a Para PDA in .45. Maybe that could be your dad's cup of tea also.

I've recently read that Para does not come with a warranty. Check it out and act accordingly.

Springfield Armory EMP

Sounds like exactly what you're looking for! Not cheap, but one of the most attractive and well made guns on the market.

Boba, I have a Springfield fullsize 1911 in 9mm. It has all the bells and whistles, 9 round mags, and has so far shot flawlessly for my 15 year old (he shoots IDPA with it). I can heartily recommend it.

Colt made some 9mm 1911's (mostly Commanders) back when, if you want the real deal. $700+ seems the going price for a used one.

Kimber makes the the Pro Carry II in 9mm for about $600-$650 and the Tac Pro II in 9mm for about $950-$1000.00, both are 4" guns.

Para Ordance makes the 4" LTC in 9mm for about $600-$650, I think they offer a 5" gun for the same $$$.

STI offers the Trojan in 9mm for about $600, also they offer a few more that are more $$ but I don't know ALL their names (the Ranger is one thou)

Springfield Armory offers a couple of 9mm 1911's. Prices vary from $600-$1200+

Fusion offers a few 9mm 1911's. $1200+

Les Baer offers the Premier II in 9mm occasionally or by special order. $1600

Night Hawk offers a couple of 9mm 1911's. $2500+

I think that about covers it.

Good luck

rklessdriver,

that pretty much does cover it. I had to copy your post and put it in a .txt file just so I can have that information for later. Niiiiice post.

I have the 9mm Baer, $1,860 out the door from John at Proload some months ago.

Wilson offers a lot of their models in 9mm.

Dan Wesson also makes them in limited quantities. My guess is that there will be more on the market if demand is there.

Your Dad is worth a great 9mm. Have him get what you want to shoot with him and that you'd like your kids to have some day.

If he is all for carrying a full size pistol, you might try and find a Para P18-9 and see how he likes it.
Otherwise, look compact.

Nighthawk Custom makes a really nice 9mm 1911 called the "LadyHawk". Don't know what your price range is but if it's near $3000 you might want to check it out!!.

A Springfield loaded 1911 fullsize in 9mm would get my vote i own 2 and my sons and fiancee shoot it al the time and my fiancee carries it in the summer quite a bit.

The best way to make a BHP feel more 1911 like is a Houge monogrip. The Browning grip frame is really square compared to the rectangle of a 1911. The grip 'stretches' the front to rear dimension of the grip.

BHP triggers, even with the mag disconnector removed are mushy.

BHP's are still my fave 9mm, but many people say the CZ75 and CZ 75SA are similar to a 1911 in the hand.

I have a BHP with the mag disconnect removed and a trigger job. I have a CZ75 with Trausch grips. Both nice guns. I prefer the Baer with slim Esmeraldas.

For the look and feel of a 1911 in a 9mm-chambered pistol, you might look for a good-condition Star BM on some of the auction sites. The manufacturer of these pistols is no longer around, so there would be some drawbacks as to parts availability and such. On the plus side, very nice Star BMs continue to surface on GunBroker for around $200-$300, including some non-milsurp commerical pieces that were imported many years ago.

Nice list, thanks!

And thanks to everyone else as well. I'll run these by him to see what he likes.

Any other suggestions would be great as well...or even any opinions on those already posted.

I too would be interested in a $600 STI Trojan in 9mm! Please post the link!
