I am getting a new .17 hmr and the model I believe that I am getting as a gift has a hard plastic trigger guard. I would have never noticed it if I had not been reading about it on here. Can you get aftermarket metal trigger guards, if so from where, and does it really make that much of a difference whether or not the trigger guard is plastic or metal?

The model is a Savage 93R17 GVXP. The trigger guard is connected to the wood stock with two screws, one in the front and one in the back. It is not molded into the stock. This is why I thought it might be possible to remove it and replace it with a metal guard.

It would help to know the make and model, but typically the trigger guard isn't easily removable if made of polymer (most are molded into the stock, and removal/replacement would require quite a bit of smithing), however it is nothing to be concerned about because most hold up just fine (it is an aesthetic issue with most folks, myself included).
