I need to replace the #6 and #8 sights on my P226R which was originally a 40SW but I've converted to a 357SIG which requires a #8 and #8. I have the standard contrast lollipop sight right now.

I know night sights are great and maybe I'll do 3 Gun at some point but I do have other pistols with night sights as well. I am never gonna be able to get a CCW where I live and plan to live so carry isn't a concern. This is just a range gun.

I'm considering these two sights right now and was wondering if Fiber Optic sights are much better than the small potential benefit I may have with night sights.

Nothing beats fiber optic in the daylight. So I would make my choice based on when you shoot the most. Others will come up with far-fetched "isn't your life worth...." scenarios for the Trijicons. My TFOs have been great.

I use standard F/O sights on my IDPA pistols and they are great. The TFO seems to me to be the ultimate answer, fiber with tritium to light them up at night. I have one set of tritium night sights and they are ok, but not nearly as good as the TFO's I looked at recently.

My TFO's left me sour.

The tritium vial plug fell out and the tritium was lost. TruGLO's customer service for consumers sucked, but luckily my gunsmith got a hold of them after a week of calling. They requested my whole slide and my gunsmith sent it in on monday. Turn around time is unknown...

Mine was for a Kimber 1911, the front sight is not flush with the slide, the finish on the sights are so so...but they work VERY well during the day and during the night hours.

Awesome concept for sights, I just with the quality was higher.

I have TFOs on my XD and Trijicons on my HK USPc. Both are great. If you buy the TFOs, I suggest you read johnle's post above me, and immediately upon receiving your slide with the sights installed (or after doing it yourself), put a coat or two of clear nail polish along the top of the fiber optic and down in the channel. It won't interfere with visibility or light transmission, and it will hold the sights that much better against any jarring or banging that may happen.

also check the end of your front sight, thats where the plug that fell out is.

TFO

Can't you just get the TFO rods to replace the one you lost ? Or,You would think it would be quicker to just order the same sight and take the rods out to replace the one that was lost ? Can that be done ?

Thanks,Keith

Truglo gets a thumbs down from me as well. The customer service won't pick up or call back if you press the button for consumer. You have to press 2 for dealer, and then they act like jerks because your just a peon consumer. All I wanted to know was the diameter of the fibers, because mine got some cleaning agent in them that clouded them up. Oh well, I won't use them again, but I do love Heinie straight eights. Bright at night and easy, fast allignment.

Why not TruGlo? They make a fiber-optic tritium sight.

As stated, you can't beat fiber-optic for in the daylight, and if you ever need to find your sights at night, they'll be there... glowing.

I'm curious that no one mentioned Meprolights. Essentially the same thing as TruGlo...fiber optic with tritium, so if you don't like the construction or customer service of TruGlo, might want to try the other kid on the block.

I gotta say Truglo customer service does get an F. That being said, I'm on my third set for my new 1911 that I am building and they have ALL been absolutly fabulous. It is difficult to properly install them. I sent my slide in to Springfield and they cut that slide to perfectly mate with the TFO sights. Top notch sights, can't really compare them to anything else out there. They are perfect for any time of day. A+++++
