I have an M17 currently configured with a Bushell Tropy Red Dot. I can shoot very well with it (usually .5" at 80 yards) with the crosshair recticle but I have a problem in bright light. With overcast the image is clean and crisp but with bright sun light my groups go to about 3" or so. Sooo, I am considering an upgrade in the future and the Trijicon Reflex II seems to be an interesting candidate. I am leaning toward the 12.5 MOA recticle (it seems like you can have a little more precision) but I am wondering if anyone here has any experinces with these, perhaps on their AR-15's. I would also like to add that I am also thinking about a compact 4X scope. Burris makes one for about $180 and I think I might be a much better shot with that (any opinions?) due to my little red dot experience. But if I have a scope than I would like some sort of iron sight upgrade on my M17 for closer under 50 yard shots. The iron sights really stink and only have a six inch radius but I wonder if better pistol "night sights" or AR sights might be a possible solution. It looks like the rear sight can slide out but the front one appears to be part of the carry handle. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all, Domino.

I shoot about the same with my Reflex and my irons at 100 with my 16" barrel and Winchester Q31A3.

Have the Reflex on my SL8-1. Real quick to get on target and I like the idea of not needing batteries. Best I've ever done is about 3" at 100 yards with it. Sighted it in for POA at the top of the triangle. Good enough for me, but with my eyes and no magnification other shooters could most likely do better.

So your going to go from the bushnell which has a 3 or 5 MOA dot to a trijicon reflex which has a 12.5 MOA dot and you are expecting better precision shooting???????

In bullseye pistol the common wisdom among competitors is that a 3 MOA or less dot is needed to hit bullseyes consistently, a 5 or 6 MOA is not precise enough and thats at 25-50 yards.

The trijicon is not designed for sub-moa precision shooting its designed for fast sight aquisition and easy hits on a torso sized target.

If you want more precise sub-moa ability than you have now, you should get a target scope with a fine crosshair.

JMHO.

What MB said.

I have some experience with the Trijicaon reflex sight that came with the SOPMOD kit for the M4A1. I think it was ~3MOA dot. I really liked the Trijicon relfex sight. The Aimpoints were better in low light & the Trijicon relflex sight in brighter light, IMO.

Don't expect super-precision with a relfex sight. They are about as precise (& no more) as a good set of irons, but generally faster to get the round on the target.

If you want a good 4X scope, the Trijicon ACOG 4X is suh-weet...and pricey, like every Trijicon optic.

Get the reflex scope with the 12.5 moa TRIANGLE. That way you can zero the tip for precision shooting and use the entire thing for close work. I have had good success with mine. But if the only reason you want to change is becasue of glare, you may benefit from a sun screen and save lots of $$$

I like the Reflex II with the 12.5 MOA triangle, but one caveat. If you're in a shaded area and shooting into a brightly lit one, the reticle has a tendency to washout which kinda defeats the purpose of a reflex sight (quick target acquisition). Now, it does come with a gadget to darken the viewing pane so that the reticle has more contrast, but you would be obscuring part of the sight picture.

12.9 MOA Triangle

Get the reflex scope with the 12.5 moa TRIANGLE. That way you can zero the tip for precision shooting and use the entire thing for close work. I have had good success with mine. But if the only reason you want to change is becasue of glare, you may benefit from a sun screen and save lots of $$$

That's exactly what I was refering to... sorry if I didn't make myself clear the first time. Afterall, a 12.9 MOA dot would be absolutley useless for anything while the TRIANGLE allows for the tip to be used as the zero for say.... 100 meters. I have a link HERE and thanks again for your help. I think I will go with a Burris compact 4X.
