Has anyone seen, used, or compared the Giurard, to the Hornady, case trimmer's? I will be buying a trimmer this week, the Giurard is about $100.00, more is it worth it now that the Hornady is out?

It sounds like there are many different ones out there. I happen to use all Forster Trimmer products and have had very good results with Forster since I started reloading in 1982.

One problem is for very short cases, one needs the shorter base compared to the longer cases. I have the Classic, but I also somehow ended up with one that is shorter and one that is longer, so I have three bases mounted to my reloading bench. Of course, then there are the colletts which must be used to secure the base of the case and the pilot which centers the cutter head on the case mouth.

I don't know how others work, but I can tell you the Forster, once set for proper cutting length, will trim cases identically long.

At one time, I had the case mouth turning kit which trimmed the excessive brass off the exterior which flows forward and eventually makes the case neck brass thicker. There are also the inner case mouth cutters that cut the inside of the case mouth, also eliminating the excess brass that occurs.

RVencik,
I think the $100 is the price difference. I'd buy every Giraud I could get for a hundred. You would probably beat me to it though.

Rollis,
I have used a Giraud. The trimmer is fast & foolproof (depending on the fool). Mr. Giraud also supports the sport which is admirable as well.

I can't compare the two. I have never used the Hornady.

Yes the price is 315 for the hornady, and 425 for the garaud. Ether one is pricless compared to the lee, that i have trimed thousands of cases with.

I went ahead, and bought the Hornady. Instead of the mail order place I, ordered it from a locle shop. It did cost more that way, but the dealer is a friend. The cost is $351.00 out the door. Just a side note Midway is charging $349.00 before shipping.

Rollis,
I looked at the Hornady on line last night.

The Giraud trims, chamfers and deburs all in one step. The Hornady does the steps separate. That coupled with some bad reviews makes me lean toward a Giraud. I think the design of the Hornady lends itself to short runs. The Giraud would be fine for short runs if already setup. I have over a 5 gallon bucket of .223 I did in one week in my spare time with a Giraud. My wife also used it and you can not tell the difference between operator by the results. If you do thousands the Giraud would be good. If you do 100's the Hornady would probably be good. The Giruad would be easy to resell. I rarely see one for sale.

I know you already ordered one. I regret not posting sooner. I hope you end up happy with your purchase.

I usally will only do a coulple of hundred rounds at a time. Fortulitly I can leave every thing set up and move to a diffrent job as the mood strikes, If I'm not happy with the Hornady I can always still get the Giurade. Doing the extra steps will be annoying but saving the extra 75 was nice. .............. Hope it doe's not bite me in the end.
