Trip from GA to NE

Cannot get a non-resident permit in Iowa (thanks for the help in that area everyone - I know, "I told you so").:banghead:
Nebraska is a no-go

Seems like I will have lock my gun (without ammo) in its safe once I hit Iowa...

Anyone have any ideas?

Seriously, they have a "Federal Code" to allow for "Safe Transport" of firearms... why not just have a "Federal Code" to allow concealed carry??? (rhetorical, I know). I mean, dang, my 1911 is in my holster at my 3 o'clock right now and it is DARN safe!

To add to your pain - Nebraska has no 'pre-emption' and some cities have their own additional laws - some of which are flat-out illegal by any reasonable reading of the federal 'peaceable journey' law - Omaha is aggressive in this regard.

Looking at the Iowa Statutes,this appears to be your answer.

Section 16-724.4,Carrying Weapons. Iowa Exception to trunk carry.

f. A person who for any lawful purpose carries or transports an UNLOADED pistol or revolver in a vehicle inside a closed and fastened container or securely wrapped package which is too large to be concealed on the person OR inside a cargo or luggage compartment where the pistol or revolver will not be readily accessible to any person riding in the vehicle or common carrier.
