about the future of our hobby.

I went to a place in oceanside called Iron Sights (nice indoor range, but ammo is expensive there, so i get mine elsewhere.)

Anyways, I called a friend before the shoot, who I have never been shooting with before, but he says he "likes to shoot stuff." Good guy, but not really serious about the hobby, not that it matters. I enthusiastically told him to come, and he did.

We got to the range, and start shooting. I'm using some cheap reloads I bought at Turners, and they're working FINE for target practice. 1500 rounds of it through the XD without a single problem. It sells for 34.99 for a box of 250, which by my calculations is about 7 per 50, which isn't bad at all. Anyways, the stuff is made by CAL-AMMO and works well for me.

I'm getting nice tight groups, he's all over the place. So I do what anyone should do. I start giving him tips. By the time we left, he wasn't great, but he was putting all his rounds in relatively the same area, and pretty much right in the center of the target. So he's excited, and already talkin about how he should get his own gun, so he can get better than me. :-D

I should mention that the man next to me was in there with his daughters, one 10, the other 12. 12 year old was shooting a 10MM glock, and not too bad either. Then she ripped it up with a 22LR rifle of some kind. Guy pulled out some caliber rifle (I was in the military so I don't know much other than 7.62, 5.56, and 9mm.) that I havent heard of, a .243. Am I getting this right? Anyways, it was cool, as well.

So we finish up, after I put one round in my silhouette's head at the max limits of the range (i was proud) and off to the classroom to clean. Cleaning, by the way, is a VERY fun part of the day for me. First off, I like cleaning weapons. Second, it's an awesome chance to BS about which guns I want, what stupid gun laws are doing to people, etc. Clean the weapon, convince my buddy that an XD chambered in 9 is good for him, and we roll to Jack in the Box for lunch.

My new fobus FP1 holster and double mag pouches are excellent, nice fit, good retention, and cool looking too, which kinda matters to me.

Anyways, Today really put me in a great mood, and I thought I'd share it. I got a buddy more into the sport, and watched the sparkle in a girls eye when she saw a tight group out of that 10MM.

Now, if I woulda bought that M1A I want today, It would have been PERFECT!
:neener:

Ok, storytime over :-D

That sounds like a great day at the range. It's always fun to take friends who don't have their own guns. I did the same thing the other day with a friend of mine. I recently picked up a Ruger MK Target with a Tasco PDP2 red dot scope on it and my friend loved it. He was keeping most of his shots in the 10 ring area of a B-27 target at 15 yards and was having a blast. He did not do as well with the .45acp or the 9mm because of the recoil difference, but he did have fun. He also talked of getting a firearm of his own.....as soon as he gets a job.

You should hit the Jack in the Box BEFORE you clean your guns, not after. I know you said you like cleaning your gun but twice in the same day? :D

The Battlerifles.com crew took these babies out to the range today. :)
