I've got a pistol with a front sight milled as part of the slide (Springfield Armory P9; it's a CZ clone). Not replaceable without major gunsmithing.

Is it possible to have a hole drilled into it for a tritium vial to be installed? Does anyone know who would do this work?

Thanks!

Springfield Armory's Custom Shop will install a Tritium-insert dovetail front sight into any of their 1911A1 designs for $70.00 (see http://www.springfield-armory.com/CS.pdf for their shop work list and prices). They don't list the P9 in their prices, but I would assume that the same work could be done for a similar sort of price. Contact them and ask - you've got nothing to lose!

There is a company called Tool Tech in Oxford Mich. that does work like this. Matter of fact if you purchase Trijicons for a Beretta 92 what you get is a coupon that explains how to send the slide to Tool Tech to have time install night sites.

I've seen rates from $40 ~ $65 by most smiths to have front and rear dovetails cut. Then add the costs of what ever sights you choose. The extra bucks doesn't seem that bad to have a professional job done.

Well, looking at my slide again, I figured out why the front sight is milled from the slide itself. The porting on the barrel/slide is at 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock if you're looking at the muzzle, and there doesn't seem to be enough material on the left and right of the front sight to cut a dovetail into.

Might have to give ToolTech a call to see if they can drill a hole and insert a tritium capsule...

Lesson #3,286 on why life can't ever be easy... but if that's the worst thing I've got going on, then life must be pretty damn good.

tooltech is owned by Trijicon, it is their custom shop, if they can redo a Beretta slide, I would bet they can do the P9, however the porting might be an issue
