It sounds like you solved the problem. Just to add, I always clean the barrel and chamber on new guns and on guns that have had new barrels installed. I also clean the locking lug recess and lube the bolt lugs. I've found all kinds of nasty stuff from the machining processes in barrels and chambers. In triggers too, for that matter.
