Has anyone worked up a load that functions in the Kimber solo 9? I have tried 6 and 6.3 grains of hs6 under a berrys 124 grain round nose. The round fires and the slide locks open without feeding the next round. Both loads have functioned in my other 9 mm. I have not had any trouble with any factory rounds in the solo 9.

Just off-hand, sounds to me like the bullet is pushing the slide stop up. If you take the slide off and insert the slide lock into it's hole, then put a loaded magazine in the receiver, is the bullet nose hitting the slide stop, pushing it up? If so, there's your problem. It's a cartridge length or bullet profile issue. Doesn't sound like a load issue if the slide is locking back. That means the action is cycling fully.

I tried that and I dont think the nose is hitting the slide stop, but it is possible. One thing I have noticed is I am having trouble getting the bullets straight in the cases. This it the first time I have loaded the 9. I am using the RCBS die with the round nose seater stem. I am not putting a crimp on them and I am expanding the case just enough to get the bullet started. Maybe the 9 is less forgiving that ne 40 or 45. Should I expand more and put a crimp on them?

Taper crimp only, but since the load works fine in other pistols, that isn't the problem.
It's a magazine issue. Possibly the follower. What's it do with factory? New mags? You clean 'em? Lips bent in a tick?

Thanks for the link. Lots of good information there. I have had no problems with any factory ammo in this gun even the 115 grain round nose factory ammo have been flawless.

Exactly what bullet are you having trouble with?

Still sounds like the bullets hitting the slide stop under recoil to me.

RN should never do it, but certain FP or HP very well might.

Some Kahr's have similar problems and buffing or slightly filing the slide stop was the solution. On some the followers touch the ramp and cause probs...file/polish the lower end of ramp off and prob solved. A friend has a Solo and occasionally had the same prob. I buffed all metal moving parts, including the slide stop, with a Dremel felt tip and jewelers rouge, along with generous lubing, and that seems to have solved his; however, only a box of 115gr was fired, so I don't know in the long run how it'll do. If he has more probs I'll give it the "Kahr" treatment.

No offense, but look up all the reviews on the SOLO and there was a recent thread right here on this issue.

They have issues. Use the ammo they recommend, then call them and return it to make it function.

EDIT: Here is one thread

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=764491&highlight=solo

I started this that thread and have been shooting 147gr bullets with no problems since. Two of my recipes are:

4.2gr Unique under 147gr golden saber at 1.14"
2.9gr IMR700x under 147gr Hornady xtp.

I just got in some Berrys 124gr RN plated that I am going to work up.

What I have realized is that this auto wants full power loads. I love this pistol, but it is picky about what it eats.

Let me know how it goes with the berrys bullets. Thanks for posting your loads.
