Trouble: Sig 226 with 22LR conversion...

I recently picked up one of these 22 lr pistol sets and I really like it thus far. However, it has been having a function issue that I believe is mag related. What happens is that every few rounds, the slide will lock itself back on the mag while the mag still has rounds in it (also, the gun is not designed with a last round slide lockback so it should really never lock back automatically). All I have to do to fix it is to tap my hand upward on the bottom of the mag and it pops free and locks the breech. Besides that, it has no issues with feeding, ejecting, or firing all types of ammo.

Has anyone experienced this mag related lockup on their Sig 226/229 conversion gun? If so, are you aware of any fixes?

nothing huh?... It must be a freak occurrence. Even the folks at Sig say they have never heard of such a thing.

They were very nice though... sent me a pre-paid shipping label to return it to them.

Look on sigforum.com. There are a lot of issues with the conversions, and although a lot of folks want one, few are still willing to pay the cost of a nice Ruger .22 that will work forever; for a slide that has function issues and won't lock back on the last round. I love my sig's but i won't get one until they can overcome these issues.

I have a conversion for my 226, and so far it has worked great. There were maybe 6 times that it didn't go into battery but once I got past the first 100 rounds I have had no problems. I'm up to about 600 now.

It is a bit of a bummer that the slide doesn't lock back, but since it only holds 10 rounds, I can count that far, and know when to stop. That's 5 times I get to draw, fire one DA, one SA, and decock.

I carry a 229, or a 239, and I feel that shooting a .22 on the 226 frame is not only cheap, but great training. There are better .22's out there, (I do have a Ruger), but they don't function the same as my carry guns.

Yeah... the price is a bit tall, but I did it for the same reason as Muddflap... my wife and I both carry 239's and the 226 conversion is virtually identical in grip angle, sights, and operations. I also have a Ruger MKIII, but it does not feel at all like our carry guns. I really love the way the Sig conversion shoots... maybe I just need to run more rounds through it to break it in. I have put around 300-400 through it so far, but maybe it needs more.
