Just ran across a brand new mossberg 500 persuader that works fine until you load shells into the mag tube. Once you do that, it won't feed unless you work the action hard and fast.

Looks like somehow the cartridge interrupter is somehow engaging with the round and twisting the pivot point out where it interferes with the elevator as it comes down to receive the round.

Think a new/modified interrupter would fix it, or maybe something else is causing the interrupter to try and rotate away from the right side of the gun?

Thanks.

When it stops midway through the cycle I can feel the little point on the interrupter interfering with the elevator. If I press on the point on the interrupter, the elevator can slide past and complete the cycle.

Maybe you aren't pumping it hard enough?
Does it lock up solid so you can't pump it at all?

Or just a tight spot that you can get past when you work the action hard?
If it's that, it's a new gun and will break in & smooth up after you use it a little.

If you run the action really hard and fast you can get it to operate sometimes. If it doesn't complete the cycle, it freezes up solid. Definitely doesn't just need to be broken in. Looks like the top of the point on the interrupter is interfering probably a 64th-32nd of an inch or so. Works OK when no round in the tube, seems like being in contact with a round is torquing the interrupter funny and making the top stick out into the path of the elevator rather than letting it slide by.

Anybody hear of Mossbergs being known for this kind of thing?

I've had 2 Mossbergs and both were no problem machines. I haven't heard of any Mossbergs with those problems. Probably a nontypical malfunction. I'd send it back.

I had one get a pellet [7 1/2 or 8] in there and get flatened. was a pain to get cleaned up but once all the lead was gone from near the pivot point it worked well.

I sent it back yesterday. Sounds like it might be up to a month or two before it gets back to see if it's been fixed. Thanks for the posts.
