Hi guys,

I've had a great time with my .357 Sig 229, except for one minor problem. about 25% of the time I slap a fresh magazine into her at the range, the mag binds at the release latch. I've trained myself to guide the mag in with pressure only on the right side of the buttplate, as this seems to avoid the problem. Still kind of irritating, considering the cost of the little booger.

Two things; I've got Hogue grips on her (grooved wraparound type), and the mags are the neutered Caliban friendly out-of-box types.

Advice is muy, muy appreciated.

are you still having a problem

The new grips maybe the draging on the slide catch. Change grips and see if it takes care of the problem. You may have to touch up the grips so the catch does not bind.

Thanks Keith. I'll give that a try.

My friend Justin used the Sig 226 in the service (SEAL, real one, honest) and he recommended loosening the grip screws a quarter turn and throwing a little loctite on them. Pretty sure that's gonna work.

Thanks again!

Run a finger inside the mag well and see if you can feel the screws protruding at all. Could just be bad screws.

Otherwise, it could just be a bad magazine catch.

If the grip screws are the problem you can carefully take them down with a stone until they clear the magazine. (Remove them obviously while you work on them.) Reblue the end with cold blue and you are ready to go.

You could always call Sig. You'd be amazed at their customer service. (in a good way).
