Jim, a little more info on the Wilson/Skelton springs?
(On reflection, the 325 was used; never checked the length of the strain screw) Hmmm.

The Wilson Custom Tune spring set includes a plain flat mainspring lighter than stock and an assortment of reduced rebound springs.
So it might or might not whack hard enough but at least it does not mess with strain screw geometry.

Skeeter Skelton ground down the stock spring to what he called a "buggy whip" contour, cutting the edges, not the face. Obviously a trial and error process, you might use up some springs learning how much you could reduce the width.

Another trick, if you are stuck with the grooved springs, is to use an 8-32 headless set screw with the tip ground into a pyramid shape that fits the groove. That gives you quarter turn click adjustments and holds its setting. Teddy Jacobson devised that approach.

I put a Lawman's spring in my 686. It did not up the trigger pull much and the gun fires double action every time now. I did not change the rebound springs.
