TRP or Baer Concept II

Rock River Arms 1911s are similar the Baer guns as the owners used to wok for Les. They will be harder to find in stock and the wait if you order direct probably will be longer as well. Other than that they are very nice.

Kamagong - give John at Pro Load Distributors a call - 208.772.2339. He has great prices and may have what you are looking for in stock.

I know someone who has just reached the 16th week in his wait for his TRS Commanche. LB told him it will be at least another 5 weeks for delivery.

Sorry man, I didn't know the price of the Concept II. I've never shopped for Baers. I do have a TRP and it's my favorite 1911 to shoot. It has a beautiful trigger, perfect fit and finish and goes with me to the range every time I go. I love my Browns but I prefer to shoot my TRP.

I should also add that the extractor, slide and barrel all have hand etched serial numbers on them that match the guns serial number. That means the Custom shop fitted all the critical parts to give me one of the smoothest actions and nicest fits I've seen in any 1911.

Nope, the Professional model is well over $1,500 which is the OP's price point. The Concept II and the TRP are in the same price range.

Unfortunately, the RRA 1911s are not on the California DOJ approved handgun list.

Springfield Armory also makes the TRP Operator, which fits the $1500 price range. The TRP and TRP Operator are both good pistols, but my dollars are gonna go to Les Baer. Basically I agree with Black Majik, and not just because he let me shoot his Baers. ;)

If one is to compare Baer with Springfield, shouldn't it be Springfield's "Professional" model rather than the "TRP"?
Pricewise, no. The TRP and the Baer Concept II or Premier II are all at the $1300-$1400 mark. Last time I checked the going price for a Pro is $2100.

Sturm, I love those photos of your TRP. That front strap checkering looks brutal though.

The price is comparable for a Concept II and a TRP, yes that's true. But to compare the TRP itself to a Concept II, the TRP isn't on the same level. That's where the PRO is comparable, gun for gun.

Good point Majik. But if I was able to swing the Pro, I would also be looking at some of the higher end Baers.

Price is what made ask the question in the first place. In addition to being a better gun, the Concept II/Premier II is also a better value. I don't doubt that the TRP is a fine gun, I'd snap it up in a heartbeat if someone ever offered me one. I just think it's a bit overpriced for what you get.

Kamagong,

Here's something to consider, which really is why I love Baers so much. All Baers have some high undercut triggerguards. This helps for us shooting high thumb (thumb riding safety, highest grip possible) so the gun sits lower in the hand for quicker follow up shots. With the undercut triggerguard, the gun sits even lower, reducing perceived recoil.

When you're getting into the $2K+ Baers, a PII 1.5" is still gonna shoot just as well as a Ultimate Master 1.5". By then it's really just splitting hairs.

PROs are nice, and they're smooth shooters. But it's no secret where my loyalty lies. :)

Its partialy your fault I ended up with a Baer you know. :)

I just placed an order for a Baer Concept II. It's very slightly used as the condition is LNIB, but for $1100 I just couldn't pass it up.

It's all your guys fault!

I bought my PII used LNIB back around the first of April. It was in the very early stages of break-in. My seller said he'd put around 8-900 rounds through it. I've put thousands of rounds through it. It is just nicely broken in at this point. I've shot lots of speed steel matches, bowling pin shoots and even a USPSA event with it. Great gun. Very reliable using my reloads. Seems to like 200 gr SWC with 4 to 4.1gr Clays real well. If you want to shoot a lot, reloading is a must. That's a whole different thread.

It came with the 1 1/2" guarantee and the factory mag well. I've added an EGW fiber optic sight. Good choice on the Baer. I have a S&W1911PD Commander, SA Black Stainless Loaded and Brown Exec. Target. I shoot the Baer better and more often.

Was told by a custom 1911 builder that a TRP is the best 1911 off the shelf. Then asked him this same question LB or TRP? Les Baer was his answer. For u guys looking for a LB and don't want to wait look up John at proload.com he has about 300 LB's in stock. No wait, and cheaper then anyone I've found.

Shooting a Baer is addictive. I've had a Baer Custom for years now and it is still my absolute favorite to carry and shoot. My friends line up to shoot it and they all have 1911s (including Kimbers). I felt bad when one of them decided to trade up from Kimber after shooting mine. (But not too bad)

The way Les Baer sculpts the junction of the front grip strap and the trigger guard makes Baers fit my hand like no other 1911. I sold my other 1911 pistols, and have only my Thunder Ranch Special how. If I buy another 1911, it will be a Baer, or built on a Baer frame. FWIW, my first two Kimbers, Classic Customs purchased in 1997, took much work and parts swapping before they would function reliably, and my Stainless Gold Match purchase shortly thereafter had a defective extractor, and only worked with McCormick Power Mags. Kimber will get NO MORE of my money!

Here's my newest baby. I didn't like how the factory stocks looked, so I swapped them out with some smooth maple burl grips. I'm not quite sure how I like the look.
