I currently own an XD-40 Service, a CZ PO-1, a Kahr P9 Covert and a Browning Buckmark. My wife has a S&W M&P 9mm Compact. I am selling my XD-40 Subcompact, because I rarely carry or shoot it. I can buy one of two guns, an XD-9 Service or a Sig P250 9mm Compact, and am having a hell of a time deciding which one to buy.

The Sig appeals because it is different from anything I have. It is supposed to be very accurate with an excellent DAO trigger. On the downside, some of them have had issues, the magazines are expensive and I'd have to buy new holsters.

The XD-9 appeals to me because I already know I like XDs and shoot them well. It will work with my existing holsers and magazines are cheap. The downside is that it will be the third XD that I've owned, so it is not an exciting choice.

The gun will be used mainly for IDPA, pin shooting and general range use. It might get carried, but probably not a lot. It may find its way into the bedside table for home defense.

Any thoughts?

Oh, both guns run about $480. The Sig comes with night sights and one mag. The XD comes with conventional sights and two mags. I'd probably put TruGlow TFOs on the XD later.

For me, the choice would have to come down to whether an additional mag or night sights was cheaper. Hard choice.

Cost of ownership for the two guns is pretty close. The XD comes with two mags. I need 4. Mags are about $30 each. Night sights are about $100. Figure $160 to get up and running, since I already have holsters (remember, I still have an XD-40 Service).

The Sig comes with one mag, but has night sights. Mags are about $45 and I need three. I also need a holster for IDPA. A Blade-Tec Stingray will run me about $70. Total cost of ownership works out to about $205. Add another $70 for a CrossBreed SuperTuck if I decide to carry the Sig later (not likely).

dude seriously. you are talking about a infintesimal amount of $$ compared to ammo and range fees etc.

Buy the gun you WANT, not the gun that will be 50 bucks cheaper. seriously. with all those other guns you have its not a "need" issue anymore anyhow.

dont sweat a holster, we all have bought many over the years.

Buy the XD. The Sigs are kinda...well everyone doesn't like the 250. I bought my father-in-law a DAO Sig Pro 9mm last month and it shot alright but...nothing to write home to mom about.

I love both my XD45C (EDC) and my wife's XD9SC.

Good advice. The problem is that I can't decide which one I want. I'm leaning toward the Sig, because I don't already have one. I also think the price I'm getting is good enough that I wouldn't lose money on it if I don't like it and decide to trade it.

I'm trying to talk my wife into letting me spend the extra hundred bucks for an XDm-9. We're a bit tight, but a hundred bucks might be managable and that's the gun a really want.
