Hello all,
I have a Smith Mod 43 kit gun in .22.
web Gunsite prices range from $500 all the way to $1200 although i would like this to be true i can`t believe the guns would be worth that much, could anybody give me a true estimation of value?
The Gun is in excellent condition, no box or papers, serial # 591xx also could anybody give me a D.O.B.
thanks in advance. Wiff.

This probably won't be any help but "book" value in the real world means nothing. Whatever a buyer is willing to give and the seller is willing to take is the "true" value (dollar wise)of anything.

DOB for M70XXX is given as 1973-1977 M60001 - M99999

Value? You can see that a certain FFL thinks a lot of his S&W's, but they are ANIB with all the stuff, so perhaps someone will eventually buy for the asking price. Maybe. Hopefully.

If it's in good shape, you might ask $750 but be prepared to go lower depending on condition... but then again, you did not say anything about selling it, just asking its value... correct?

Set a $$ number on it you like (they ain't making the 43 anymore, but you can buy a new 317 for only $500-600+/-) and ask a few good friends if they'd pay that amount for it, always knowing that one can go buy any other brand new .22 wheelgun and a whole lot of ammunition to go with it above a certain price point (new S&W 617s are nowadays going for what, $650-750?).

Keep its value relative, unless you find a very drunken S&W collector w/ $100 bills hanging out of his or her pocket, who just HAS to own it...

Thanks for the info Baba Louie.
I was thinking of trading the gun for a lever action but maybe it should just sit in the safe acting all queenlike....
thanks again, Wiff.
