Trying to decide on a first CCW revolver

I carry a S&W 640-1 .357 mag in a Robert Mika pocket holster in Levi's(blue jeans) or in a Sparks VMII IWB holster.

I pocket carry it more than I do on my belt.

It is heavier than the super lightweight revolvers, but I can comfortably shoot 158 grn 38's or medium velocity 125 grn .357s. They are about the same in felt recoil and I am comfortable with their performance in a close encounter of the fatal kind.

It's heavier than light ones, and smaller than the K-frame guns..

Works for me.

S&W 642 if you are going to carry all day once-in-awhile or all day every day or briefly once-in-awhile or briefly every day.

Nice gun Iggy. Man, there's a lot of good sentiment out there for the 642. I think it would be hard to ignore that. Since I want a .357 though, I'm now itching to buy them both. Somebody stop me!

I'll try. :)

A .357 in a size and weight that you can comfortably and unobtrusively stash in a pocket will be flatout uncontrollable when you touch it off.

Is there any way you could fire one before you put your money down? It you do, I'm pretty sure you'll see what I mean. :)

642, on the other hand... just really rocks the house. Light enough, small enough, controllable enough, powerful enough, accurate enough. As far as compromises go, this is about the best.

best to you!
