I really want a High capacity 45 but I have heard some good thing about the PT1911. The one concern is the trigger action on the XD45. I'm not a big fan of DAO. They are both in the price range I'm looking in. Any feed back would be appreciated. Thanks

I am a 1911 fan, but I also have an XD .45 and the XD's have a very managable trigger which I find easy to shoot well. I believe you would be happy with either gun. Try em out and see which one feels good to you and which one just "flics your bic"

The one concern is the trigger action on the XD45. I'm not a big fan of DAO.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but all XD triggers are basically single action only (SAO) in their workings.

You must action the slide to cock the firing pin striker the first time. You can not cock it with the trigger alone, so it's not DAO in any way that I understand DAO.

I've owned 2 XD's and the triggers, while not 1911-like, are just fine IMO. A relatively short take-up and decent break, in my experience.

They're very different guns. Maybe you should narrow it down to whether you are looking for a high cap utilitarian polymer type gun, or a 1911 first?

XD45, it is a single action strker fired pistol. I love 1911's, but the XD45 can hold its own against my 1911's. I hear Taurus makes some solid pistols, but I'd still go with the XD.

I'm sorry but I a single action gun you manually had to pull the hammer back each time like a revolver and a double action pulls the hammer back and then lets the hammer go and hits the firing pin that's why the trigger pull is a longer on a DA compared to a SA. You guys with the XD's. I heard its easy to break down the gun for cleaning is this true ? What else do you like about it ? I'm leaning towards the XD because of the higher capacity. Thanks again.

It is very easy to break down the XD and clean. The XD has, IMO, a long trigger pull, the begining of which is very soft, and every pull is the same, from the first to the last. I like my XD, as do most people who own them.

Do you have any other guns? Maybe try something different. I have the XD in 9mm, so although my next gun will likely be a .45, I will probably go the 1911 route just to get some variety. Also, what will you be using the gun for? Range or work? Maybe that will make a difference?

"I'm sorry but I a single action gun you manually had to pull the hammer back each time like a revolver"

Single action is different in autoloaders vs. revolvers. A single action auto is cocked when you rack the slide to chamber a round. You fire that round, the slide goes back and automatically recocks the gun. No need for thumbing back the hammer.

A true DA or DAO gun has a second strike capability.

I have both. A PT1911 & a XD45 Tactical. I use them for different things. They are both great guns. I would be hard pressed to pick one of them over the other. I guess the capacity of the XD would be the deciding factor, but I can change mags pretty fast in a 1911. That's part of the fun of shooting one.

cj42,

While I love my 1911's, and my son has a really great shooting PT-1911, and I have several non-1911 Taurus firearms......I have to say my XD-45 is more fun to shoot than any of them. Having to reload only once in every 14 rounds is great as well.
Cool....well if that were my criteria....I personally think the 1911 is the best looking gun out there. I have several fine looking handguns, both revolvers and pistols, but the 1911 looks like a fighting handgun, so let's not even address it's reputation as a manstopper in war.:D

For another $70 or 80 you might want to take a look at the new STI Spartan. I just seen the new XD45 in the desert tan and thought it was pretty sharp. I do miss my XD at times as they are reliable and accurate.
