Tucson City Counsil passed some bs legislation for reporting stolen guns and for blood alcohol testing if found shooting within city limits.

Lucky it was preempted by state law, and the AG tore them a new one.

My proposed thank you letter to the 2 Councilman follows. If you think it's a waste of time please let me know:

I'm sorry to hear through media outlets that you were in favor of increased gun control. I am pleased that your attempts to create legislation were stopped as they should have, due to the State's preemption over localities trying to enact these ordinances. In Arizona we don't have a patchwork of laws for citizens to navigate through. No matter where you live or visit in our great state you know the laws are the same.

Let me explain, I am all for safety and security. However this is not the way to do it. Focusing your efforts on enabling those in need of mental health services and committing those that are a danger to themselves and others is the best way to effect safety in your community. I worked in Tucson for behavioral health, I know from experience that funding and access to these services is abysmal. When Jared Loughner killed 6 people, he had been removed from Pima Community College for acting erradic and having bizzare behavior, and he was addicted to drugs. A law that stipulated that a lost or stolen gun be reported would have had no effect on stopping this from happening.

When you create legislation, please be aware that this puts a burden on the law abiding citizen, not on the criminal where efforts should focus. ALL studies have shown that more citizens with firearms equals a drop in crime rates. If you know this why push for more regulation making it harder for people to own and keep firearms? Are you for violent crime?

Not bad. And letting your reps on any level know how you stand on 2A issues is never a waste of time. Might want to see about giving them the boot though. Find another councilman(s) that will stand for your Rights and promote him.

That part is incorrect so it is best to change it to "studies frequently show...".

It typically takes more than 2 people to pass something on City Council so why just these 2?

It is always great to put them on notice that you noticed what they were up to, but unless you're in their district or you're committing to some action that can remove them from office in the next election you may not get a lot of traction with them. You have to find a way for it to matter to them who you are or they may think they can ignore you.

Thanks for the unput. I'm not in their district, but I used to live in Tucson and it's a hell hole. Mostly because they don't know how to run the city.

The 2 I mentioned were the cry babies in the media article. They didn't get their way, so they went to the news. I wanted more to let them know I really appreciate all their hard work

It's just my luck as soon as I moved out of AZ they passed Constitutional carry. I wish I had been more into guns when I lived out there, so many good resources; ranges, classes, training, etc. I've always been into guns but didn't quite get addicted until a few years ago :)

When I was stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB in the early ‘70s, the Tucson city council reacted to noise complaints by people who’d bought homes off the end of the active runway and passed a resolution to close the base.

The base commander appeared on TV. When the reporter asked for his comment, he was laughing so hard that he couldn’t talk.

City councils are almost as stupid as school boards.

Wow.

That reminds me of the time that the city council of some California city - Berkeley, I think - passed a resolution declaring George W. Bush persona non grata because the council members disagreed with the Iraq war. If I had been a citizen of that town I'd have been sorely tempted to contact each of the council members and ask them to kindly spend their working hours doing what they are paid to do, i.e. govern the darned town.

Yeah, Tucson doe's have it's Lefty toads in high places. But we have the Jon Justice radio show that is hot on these lefty activists and his show has a strong conservative, pro gun base that isn't afraid to speak up. Also on the outskirts of Tucson there is a firm contingent of pro-gun ranchers and outdoor types that don't put up with much of the Lefty loonatics.
It's work, but I wouldn't write off Tucson entirely. If nothing else I think we can keep the enemy in check.
