Fellow Grass Roots Maryland Gun Owners,
Don Dwyer has asked us grass roots activists to keep up the pressure in Annapolis, and to put on another good showing on March 16th.
Let's all pledge to do it one more time, because we're not out of the woods by a long shot. We all know what a sweetheart Senate President Mike Miller is. If he can't get what he wants from Senator Giannetti, he'll look elsewhere. In fact, rumor has it he has already started looking.
There are at least two options at his disposal.
He may pull the old "Rule 43" trick, the same one used in 2000 to get Glendening's "Gun Safety Act" (a.k.a. SB211) passed. Since the vote on SB288 has not been taken, the bill is as vulnerable at SB211 of 2000 was as it sat in the drawer of former JPR Chair, Walter Baker.
He may also attempt to cut a deal behind the scenes to get a bill passed to help Beretta, since they're in his district. Grass roots gun owners will have nothing to do with that. We need to send a message loud and clear that these are our rights, and NOBODY can barter them away.
We must make the political price high enough so that they get the message, AGAIN. That's why we need to show up in Annapolis for a second time. We need to shine the lights on Annapolis, and not simply look the other way. A whole nation of gun owners is watching, and we've gained too much ground to watch "compromisers" snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The enemy is fleeing the field with his back exposed. This is no time to pause in our advance.
Please RSVP if you plan on attending the hearing on March 16. Try to get there by 9:00 if you can. Delegate Don Dwyer wants to give us some pointers on testifying, and we can use the time to do our own style of lobbying in Annapolis. We'll show you how.
Our enemies are cowards. Leah Barrett of Ceasefire Maryland has even suggested that those who showed up in Annapolis on February 10th came in from out of state! Are you going to let her get away with that?
Of the 180 names of citizens opposed to SB288, every one gave their name, complete address, and phone number.
The proponents of SB288?
Name and organization.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is what citizenship is all about -- getting on record and standing your ground.
Ben Franklin said we'll have a Republic IF we can keep it.
I say let's keep it.
