Fellow Grass Roots Maryland Gun Owners,

Don Dwyer has asked us grass roots activists to keep up the pressure in Annapolis, and to put on another good showing on March 16th.

Let's all pledge to do it one more time, because we're not out of the woods by a long shot. We all know what a sweetheart Senate President Mike Miller is. If he can't get what he wants from Senator Giannetti, he'll look elsewhere. In fact, rumor has it he has already started looking.

There are at least two options at his disposal.

He may pull the old "Rule 43" trick, the same one used in 2000 to get Glendening's "Gun Safety Act" (a.k.a. SB211) passed. Since the vote on SB288 has not been taken, the bill is as vulnerable at SB211 of 2000 was as it sat in the drawer of former JPR Chair, Walter Baker.

He may also attempt to cut a deal behind the scenes to get a bill passed to help Beretta, since they're in his district. Grass roots gun owners will have nothing to do with that. We need to send a message loud and clear that these are our rights, and NOBODY can barter them away.

We must make the political price high enough so that they get the message, AGAIN. That's why we need to show up in Annapolis for a second time. We need to shine the lights on Annapolis, and not simply look the other way. A whole nation of gun owners is watching, and we've gained too much ground to watch "compromisers" snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The enemy is fleeing the field with his back exposed. This is no time to pause in our advance.

Please RSVP if you plan on attending the hearing on March 16. Try to get there by 9:00 if you can. Delegate Don Dwyer wants to give us some pointers on testifying, and we can use the time to do our own style of lobbying in Annapolis. We'll show you how.

Our enemies are cowards. Leah Barrett of Ceasefire Maryland has even suggested that those who showed up in Annapolis on February 10th came in from out of state! Are you going to let her get away with that?

Of the 180 names of citizens opposed to SB288, every one gave their name, complete address, and phone number.

The proponents of SB288?

Name and organization.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is what citizenship is all about -- getting on record and standing your ground.

Ben Franklin said we'll have a Republic IF we can keep it.

I say let's keep it.

Are we going to the same building as last time? I am going to be there either way, but trying to decide whether to try to find a babysitter for the boys or bring them. On one hand, I think its important for people to see that not all Mom's are anti-gun but on the other hand, I can't testify with my kids there. Which do you think I should do? The descision may be made for me if I can't get a babysitter but thought I'd see what ya'll think.

You damn skippy I'll be there.

How bout it folks. March 16. WE need US to pack the joint AGAIN. I understand if you can't make it,but if there's anyway you can, please consider it. Call in sick,or whatever,Hell, I'll be your excuse. Just tell me what to say,and who to call.
When I get up to testify,I want to be able to turn around and see over 150 pissed off, steely eyed, young, old, black, white, latino, asian, democratic, republician, freedom loving, shooters behind me.
We have got to do this folks. Damn the rest of the nation looking at us. I chose to stay in Maryland to fight the good fight. I WILL NOT be fighting for the rest of the nation. I'll be fighting for you.

It's on my calender.

GWAG - I would vote to bring the boys, even if it means not testifying. I think that has more of an impact.

I'll try to be there, but my current job situation (or more accurately, lack of a job) is such that I can't promise. If I get a job before then I may not be able to take off so soon after starting a new job, especially since I'll need a bit of time in about a month for Pesach (Passover). If I have an interview that day I won't try to reschedule- I don't want to play those kind of games at this point. However, if my schedule is clear, no job, no interview, I'll be there. Even if I make it, I doubt I'll testify though. Since it is so up in the air if I'll be there, and I do have a midterm exam around then, I don't want to take the time to write something that I might not use, and I don't want to try to write something that day if I do go. Still, simply having more faces with NRA or similar buttons on sends a message and that is important as well.

You can certainly testify with kids in tow

i've seen the anti's do it.

we can make a show of it and have 2 volunteers give up their front row seats for your kids while you are behind the speakers desk

Ok, I really want to testify now. The following is what I have come up with to say. Please give any comments or suggestions. I didn't hear the testimony at the last hearing so I don't even know if this is the kind of thing to say or not. Also, if I am going to do this, might I get a volunteer or two to help me with the kids while I am testifying? Please let me know if this sounds good. Too long? Too short? Totally sucks? Whatever, just let me know because if I am going to testify, I want to leave an impression. Thanks.

I am the mother of two small children and I think its
important for you to know that despite what anti-gun
organizations would have you believe, not all mothers
support the Assault Weapons Ban.
As a parent who would do anything to keep my children
safe, I have thoroughly researched this issue. In doing
so, I have discovered the lies and half-truths brought to
us by organizations such as Ceasefire Maryland. While I
applaud any person's effort to keep our children safe, I
believe they are misguided and intentionally misleading
the people of Maryland to further their agenda.
I encourage each and every one of you to please research
for yourselves the statistics that anti-gun organizations
are hoping you will believe. I am confident that if you
do this, you will see that they are deliberately trying to
mislead you. The true facts speak for themselves. We, the
voters, put our trust in you.

Hey Cliff, I'm healed up enough to make the trip this time. AFAIK, my brother is coming along as well. Is someone going to post directions for us folks from the "Country"?

GWAG, That sounds great, you might even consider adding to it a bit. If the rules of testimony apply as before, everyone should have 3 minutes to have their say.

Harry, MikeK,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the hearing on the 16th will be at another building?

Gunfyter, Directions and info will be coming soon.

Cuz' as of right now, it looks like both the state and federal AWB's will be trashed.

And I got to go shooting today:D

I'm not going to hold my breath though. I'm sure the anti's are up to something to make our lives miserable. Things keep flipflopping around too much to stay happy.....

once again they have too many gun bills scheduled for the 16th
theres 18! and they are starting at 1pm

Last year the AWB bill debate was not started until after 5:30

i'll post a list soon

it will be run in the House Judiciary conference room in the James Bldg.
