Tula Primer's

I, am getting ready to make a large order of primer's, so I, have couple of question's.
1) Has anyone had any functioning problems with these primer's, and a 650? Example, some CCI's that I have get stuck in my pickup tube's, but feed, and prime case's fine.
2) Powder Valley seem's to have the best price, but not sure what it will work out with the shipping yet. Are there any other distributer's with better price's, and shipping?

Widener's has LPM/SR/SRM/.223 primers for $16/1000.

I am not sure if current lot # of Tula SP primers are still having harder cup issues that results in light primer strikes (especially in Glocks), but I am having failure to ignite issues with lot # 20-10 of Tula SP primers with silver colored cups - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=8075948#post8075948

I have not had any failure to ignite with Tula LP/LR/SR/.223 primers. I have done extensive testing of Tula SP primers on the linked thread, even testing CCI 400 SR, Tula SR and Tula .223 primers with thicker cups without failure to ignite. If you are planning a large purchase, I would endorse all Tula primers and caution against Tula SP primers (if you could, I would test a small sample of current lot to ensure they ignite 100% in your pistols).

There was another person on another forum having problem with the Sp in a Sig. Since these comes out of the same plant as Wolf I would not buy a large quantity without testing them. If these are for practice only and you don't mind doing malfunction drills give them a try. I only had 1 Wolf SP that failed to Fire in 10k. Most of the problem was with seating them.

I have been using Wolf 5.56 primers and Tula Large Rifle Magnum primers. They seem to be every bit as good as CCI 41's and CCI 250's at going bang in my experience. Although the LRM's are HARD to seat in Win 6.5x55 brass, even with my press.

I wouldn't hesitate to order more in SP or SPM. If folks are having issues with these primers in striker fired pistols, I'd check their reloading methods first. Bad batches of primers do happen, but normally it is improper seating that causes a problem (and if the pistol primers are as hard to seat as the LRM's I've been using I would guarantee that there are some high seated primers!)

I have used about 4k of Wolf LPP and I only had one bad primer. They are a little harder to seat in my press but I just have to be careful when priming to make sure I give enough pressure. From what I have read Tula and Wolf are the same exact thing so I wouldn't hesitate to buy them.
 
Thanks for the information, my biggest worrie is having a large number of primer's, and for some reason they don't work well in my press regardless of brand. Thanks for the heads up on Wilders.
 
In the past year, I have ordered 22k Tulas, load and shot a pile of 'em. I do find them a little more difficult to seat than some of the others when using my LNL press. The extra effort is worth the $$ saved.
 
I have been using the Tula primers in LP, LR, SP, & SR. No problems. I have only used a few thousand. They are my favorite primers.

Where are you in SE Ohio? Maybe we can do a group buy.
 
Powder Valley is very reasonable on shipping, IMO. I just got a 44 lb order from them. They charged $18 for shipping and insurance on top of the hazmat fee.
 
I've been using them in both spp and lpp.No problems at all with the spp. FOR ME the trick to the lpp is to make sure to seat them FIRMLY then they work fine. I won't hesitate to buy more.
 
With somewhere around 30K 9mm reloads using FED SPPs, I've had "1" failed to fire even with two hits. The primer material color was a wierd tan color instead of green.

I personally know two people who have had recurring problems with Tula and Wolf SPPs. I have read on three forums of the same from several people. Primer physical size, hardness and FTF problemss where light hammer springs won't fire them are all given as problems in some pistols.
The savings "per round" may be a penny..NOT worth it to me. I don't intentionally reload with unreliable components.

I've read that the Wolf/Tula LPM primers aren't hot enough to reliably ignite ball powders. Otherwise I think they're good to go.

I've had good results from Wolf LP and SRM primers. Those are the only ones I've used.
 
AHA! I've been coming across a few cases with copper colored primers in my range pickups. Now I know what they are! :D

Back in the "shortage" I bought some Wolf primers and while they seemed fine I did get some velocity variations that I don't get with CCI or Winchester primers. That along with the difficult seating turned me away from them. I have not tried Tula primers so I comment on them.
 
Not sure if the primers are the same between what they use with their commercial loaded ammo vs what they sell for reloaders, but on the loaded ammo I get light strikes in my M&P (about 1 or 2 per 50 rounds). I don't experience this with any other brand of ammo or primer.

If it did it with other ammo types, I'd be concerned. I've got nearly 3500 non-Wolf/Tula rounds through the gun though that have worked fine. Its only those that give me issues. My guess is the primers are just too hard.
 
That's why roomers start. Instead of trying to find a problem you just blame the primers. I'm not saying you don't have the worst luck in the world & got the more bad Tula ammo then I know of anyone getting. I'm sure there is some. I've never had one because I have never bought one. I know several people that go through a ton of it without problem.

I would look at the gun. The Tula may not be as forgiving as the other stuff you use.
 
I have used Winchester, Federal, CCI, and Fiocchi primers in that gun.

Factory ammo from Winchester, Remington, Federal, Aguila, Magtech, and RWS.

I've got a big enough cross section that if that is the only brand of ammo that's giving issues, then the problem is with the ammo, not the gun.
 
Kingmt, I live about 40 miles west of Wheeling W.va., unfortunately I, made my order shortly after my last post. Where in the buckeye do you live.
