Saw an ad for one; sounds very intriguing! Anyone know this strange beast? Thanks!

Other than being a Russian made bolt action with a (10 round?) detachable box magazine, I really don't know much about them. I almost bought one a year ago when they were selling for $289 from CDNN solely for the use of DAG plastic practice ammunition (had 1000 round on hand), but stumbled upon a nice 1916 Spanish Mauser for less than half that and bit.

I still wouldn't mind having one....

The TOZ-122s tempted me for a while. I've got two TOZ .22s, which are incredibly accurate and reliable for ~$100 rifles, and I've always just liked Russian guns; the chrome lined barrel on the 122 is also a plus. I ended up buying a pistol caliber carbine and moving on, but if I had extra cash and a hankering for another bolt gun in the future, I might pick one up.

If you don't already have a solid and dependable bolt-action rifle, I'd suggest finding one of the traditionally accepted names that fits the bill first. While I don't doubt the TOZ is a fine rifle (personal experience with TOZ has me convinced), it's a gamble on fit, finish, reliability, accuracy, and just about everything else due to the complete lack-of-information on them. If you do have a problem with it, parts will be nearly impossible to secure. A domestically proven bolt-action (Savage, Remington, etc.) is a much safer bet on all counts, even if it is a bit less exciting/exotic.

Now if you've just got money to burn, and/or the exotic/rare rifle is stuck in your head, go for it! Just be sure to report back and tell the rest of us how she shoots! :D

Too bad there's no sold reporting on it around here, seems like it should be rock-solid. Not sure I've seen such little feedback on a rifle around here before. Let's try again!

I had one and there should be a write up in my threads

Mine was astonishingly crudely finished. Machine marks everywhere, uneven surfaces, much of the machining appeared to have been done with an angle grinder. Only one of the two mags worked, the scope rings would neither hold onto the rifle or a scope. The trigger was well north of 10lbs and the action was as rough as the most mistreated mosin.

BUT

In spite if this it actually shot rather well

I got mine for next to nothing, otherwise I wouldn't pay much over $200 for one
