I occasionally shoot the steel case TulAmmo through my 9mm pistols and its always worked well for me (for cheap range plinking). In the past, the bullet has always had a copper over steel jacket. I opened a box purchased a week ago (at walmart) to see that there didn't appear to be a copper jacket. The bullet was a light silver/gray in color. Did TulAmmo forget to put on the copper jacket or does anyone know if somehow they've changed the design/jacket of their bullet?

I do not use the stuff because I shoot inside and it produces extra smoke and stench. Does the jacket attract plain magnet? I do not think they would go into extra cost by using non-Fe jacket. It looks like they changed "cooper wash formula" which changed coloration of the bullet.

Is it just one of the cartridges, or the entire box that has this differently colored bullet jacket?

Tulammo

Tulammo comes in steel cases--the reason for the color difference

The entire box was non-copper. (and yes, I'm referring to the bullet not the case). Don't have them in front of me to take a pic. I did email TulAmmo USA but haven't heard back. Maybe they had a lot that accidently wasn't copper washed or maybe they've decided to skip that step entirely. Just curious if anyone else that uses TulAmmo has seen this.

The traditional commie (and others) load was/is with a sintered iron slug coated with laquer. If it's/they're no longer copper washed, "they" are no longer copper washed.

Last batch I shot was silver too. I shot them like normal and didn't think twice about it?
+1 ... it's "blasting" ammunition at best. If you want better you either buy the premium stuff (if you can find it) or load your own.

Tula has been using a lead core with a bimetal (copper-steel-copper sandwich) jacket for at least the last several years.

In the 9mm pistol bullet too? That's what the OP was asking about. Rifle and pistol bullets may look the same externally, but internally they can be different as to laminations, materials and core dimensions and composition.

Yes, that has been exactly the same cross-section makeup of the pistol bullet jacket, too -- I just can't find a good photo of it. Copper-steel-copper sandwich over lead core. My posting of the photo was a counter to the statement about "traditional commie ammo" and a "copper wash".

Regarding the OP's question, I don't know what is different about the particular batch he is referring to. I have not seen Tula with that color of jacket yet, much less had any experience with it. Unknown if Tula has changed their materials and manufacturing permanently, or if this is an example of a mistake or temporary change.
