I am still relatively new to reloading so I haven't tried the lizard litter, white rice, etc. I recently bought some LC brass that was very, very dirty. I use a 3-step process on this stuff and it makes them look like new:
3 hours in tumbler with walnut shell with rouge followed by
2 hours with Lyman treated corn cob (green stuff) tends to remove most of the rouge residue and finally
about 1 hour with plain untreated corn cob to polish.
I did learn in this cleaning process that the green, Lyman treated corn cob will stick in open primer pockets due to its size, so I don't deprime until after the green Lyman stuff.
This process takes a while to accomplish, but the incredibly dirty cases come out looking literally like new, and very little effort is required.
