I will be in Houston and Austin during turkey season and was thinking of going out for a hunt. Any recommended public lands or private ranches/clubs? I am looking for a day or two in the field rather than a 3 day get away with room and board, etc.

Thanks!

Most of the hunting in Texas is on private property..There are a few ranches that offer "package hunts" but they are high dollar (The Martin Ranch as an example)
A non-resident license will cost you $126..you can get one at a Wal-Mart.
There are not many places (if any) to hunt turkeys near Houston..Your best bet is the Texas "Hill Country" west of Austin.
Per Texas Parks and Wildlife, there are no public areas available for spring turkey hunting.
There are a few places offering turkey hunts for $350..BUYER BEWARE.

P.R.

not much around Houston, you need to head west.... look for places west of austin that are near water (rivers).

good luck
