Andeson Cooper 360,(edit: Aaron Brown's Newsnite is the show name) CNN tonite, a story on Patrick McCullough use of a firearm protecting himself on his own property in drug infested neighborhood in Oakland, CA.

A convenient googled link follows, though I remember reading a more descripitive newstory elsewhere.

AND from McCullogh's own mouth, an article in the The Berkley Daily Planet

I'm hijacking my own thread, but, I just realized I'm a "Senior Member" of THR.

Do I get some commemorative piece from Ruger?

Great - CNN promos the McCullough story 3 times during evening, show it as the being on the CNN schedule and I stay up way too late till 11 pm and it doesn't show!? No explanation, no mention of reschedule

"Would you settle for a billboard of legalese to slap on a pistol barrel?"

I guess

Standing Wolf - 14,718 posts - Yikes, that has to be a record. And I thought hitting a hundred was a big deal. You must take a wirless laptop with you when you gotta go :D

back on topic

I found this part of McCullough's statement to resonate for some reason:

"The commentary by Bill Hamilton (“Disarming Violence: Three Choices,†March 29-31) presents a nice convenient package for commenting, but fails to accurately portray important aspects of the situation. It is but the latest from among the people who pontificate between lattes, cop-bashing, and massage appointments."

And another:

In reality, black people are far more likely than whites to be the victim of black criminals perpetrating violence. It’s easy to choose to be unarmed if your choices also include simply not going to the dangerous area. It seems all too easy, but fashionable, for some to impute their choices to others whose lives are different. Bill only had to deal with property damage and apparently left after office hours. In my case, after having survived one ambush beating by three thugs upset that I reported them to the police, I had to deal with one gun about to be pointed at me from among a mob that had at least one other gun.

Not when 10,000 of those posts are "America isn't dumb enough to vote for that Kerry creature." Sorry SW, had to do it.

My family has never felt we were held hostage, but presumptuous Bill feels comfortable making his statement for us. To the contrary, I feel free as a bird and have always been bemused by those whom presume I haven’t taken the Emancipation Proclamation to heart. I feel so free that I look with disdain upon those who would so forsake their responsibilities to the law-abiding neighbors of his workplace who live in—rather than visit—“war zones,†that rather than report the malignant criminal behavior of drug dealers, they would unashamedly say about their relationship: “We made a deal.â€

I'm sorry, but this really doesn't sound like the writing of a regular person. I have trouble believing that Patrick McCullough actually wrote that.

Not sure what you mean by "regular person" ?

His profile is middle aged Black, grew up poor inner city Chicago, he is an electrical technician for the City of Oakland and both he and his wife have law degrees. I assume both he and his wife worked on the commentary piece.

CNN decides to show the piece tonite (Thurs) instead..I come home and only catch last part of it. He is actually very articulate one on one withthe reporter, but in a scene where a shyster lawyer interupts his TV interview on the sidewalk and tries to bait him into a violent response, McCullough responds with creative expletives/deleted.

He articulates clearly he has zero regrets for acting in a manner to defend himself.

Pat lives in Oakland, works for Berkeley. I know the man, have heard his story from his own lips. He is articulate, educated, & well armed! I just hope his example inspires his nieghbors to join in the fight to rid the area of drug-dealers. My advise to him was next time two to the chest & one to the head.
That should solve the problem.
