Today was like Christmas in April at the gunshop. I had these two on order and both came in at the same time! I was on the range shooting the Ed Brown Kobra Carry when the UPS guy brought my S&W Performance Center 952-1. Needless to say I spent the better part of the day on the range.

The Ed Brown is my first 1911. Actually it was the first I had ever shot when I put 50 rounds through it today. What can I say? I am a believer. It was one of the more comfortable guns I've ever shot and it was absolutely effortless. The trigger breaks like glass and is described as about 3.5 pounds. You can just feel the superior craftsmanship when you pick it up and work the action. It will take some time to engrain the 1911 mechanics as I'm not used to the thumb safety and carrying cocked and locked but it's nothing I shouldn't be able to overcome with dry fire and range time.

The S&W 952 is one of the Holy Trinity of 9mm production models. It is generally considered by competitive shooters to be one of the 2 most accurate 9mm models ever produced (along with the Sig P210). It's controls are very similiar to the 1911 with grip and thumb safeties. But the thumb safety isn't quite as intuitive as the 1911, although this isn't meant to be a CCW. I went directly from the KC to this and the triggers were nearly identical but the feel was much different. The first magazine was a transition but by the second I was making 1 ragged hole at 15 yards.

Both of these guns out shoot me by a mile but I'm going to put in the time and practice to push them. I love my Glock and consider it one of the greatest all-around guns made. I've put thousands of rounds through it in 1 day and kicked it around in the dirt and mud and it has continued to perform flawlessly. Probably 10,000 rounds in the last 6 months without 1 malfunction. I know I wouldn't be able to say the same about either of these but that isn't really their purpose in life. I would never ask that of them. They will both need some TLC that my Glock would never have. But after shooting these it is really difficult to go back for range work. Guess I'll just have to keep all of them and share time.

I'll post more detailed range reports for both later. I've got to take both for their first cleaning now.

Great job on finding a great looking 952.

I had it's older bother 39-2 and it was the most accurate 9mm I have shot. I'm sure you will like the 952. :)
