Is all the ((my 30 06 is better than a 270 because of bullet selection)) hoo haa worth any thing? What range of bullet weight can a single twist rate shoot accuratly? Lets just say 22 to 26 in barrel.

The .30-06 typically has a 10" twist, inherited from the .30-03 and .30-40 with their 220 grain bullets. It will do pretty well with anything from that down to a 125 and maybe a 110 grain bullet. A 2:1 ratio ought to be enough for most purposes.

that is a big can of worms waiting to be tumped over...I have played with bullet weights and twist rates and feel the old theory in todays shooting world is not accurate....
Accuracy --twist rate and bullet weight are only a couple parameters, that by themselfs cant work in every situation.....You need to take into account bullet bearing surface length and over all length along bullet hardness...and over all design

my 1:10 savage 10fp .308 hates the 180 grain game king bthp..it loves the 150 gr flatnose 30-30 bullet...and it also likes the 165gk bthp and nosler 175 custom competition.....I have not tried 190 or larger...
the 180's were 1.5" at best and usually closer to 2" with many different combos..the rest are all under 1" with many different combos.

I do not blame any of it on weight and twist rate as much as bullet design.
all guns like something different

The bullet weight is a secondary limitation. The relationship is between twist and bullet length. Basically the bigger the distance between the centre of pressure and the centre of mass of the bullet, the greater the twist rate to stabilise it. It is usually the case that longer bullets are heavier, but it is not the weight that causes the problem.
