I got an urge for a new knife last week, so I ordered myself a couple.

The first is the Bahco 2444 Carpenter Multi Purpose Knife, which is just a rebranded Morakniv Clipper with a 4" stainless blade, black rubber handle with orange guard and pommel and an orange plastic sheath with a 1 3/4" belt clip. Bahco is a Swedish hand tool brand now owned by Snap-On. Like all Mora knives, it's simple and solid, though this one was not very sharp out of the box. Then again, it only cost $11, I should have gotten two.

The second is a Svord Mini Peasant folder from New Zealand. I sure am glad I didn't get the full-size peasant as this on is 5 1/2" long when folded! It's a little bigger than I thought it would be, so it may not work for me in the long run, but it has a simple charm and was razor sharp right from the get go. I like it better than the Svord fixed blade I got last year, which just did not sit well in my hand. Not bad for $16.

The jury is still out on how these two will stand up over time, but I think I did pretty well for my $27, plus I got a small diamond sharpener to go with them and push me up over $35 for free shipping on Amazon. Both knives have actually dropped in price since I bought them down to about $10 and $15 today.

Really like my Svord. Seems ungainly but fits in the front pocket perfectly and the tang/flipper doo-hickey makes it easy to pull out of the pocket. Great blade shape, steel, easy to sharpen shaving sharp.

I have that same exact Bahco, actually 3 of them:

You should send back and get a new one. I think you got a dud. And you bought from a place that will pay the shipping to make it right.

I gave one to a friend as a fillet knife, and he's used the heck out of it. 2 of my Nephews have the others, and they whittle a bunch with then. Each that I got was shaving sharp and stayed that way for a bit.

I love the Svord, I have a full size, and take it for camping. It's convenient and easy to clean. And with the price I don't worry about hurting it.

I think you got a few great blades there.

I might be the only person on the internet that is not impressed with Mora knives, in general. I have quite a few, and half of them are just too soft to hold even the factory edge without getting nicked up. My #2's, in particular, seem to be the worst. I need to put a microbevel on them for practical use. My chinese 8cr13 blades hold a more acute edge. My Moras are all fairly recent acquisitions, though. I suspect that after Dual Survival hit the air, they let things slip a little, maybe. I have a couple of oddballs (like a 2/0 that may be old stock) that hold a great edge, and my laminated steel Moras are great.

My Svords, OTOH, are all pretty darn wicked. The steel is way more capable than the Peasant factory edge bevel gives them credit for.
