When it rains it pours. Got an SF-VI in a horsetrade at the gun range and went over to pick up the box and papers for it Monday morning and the guy (reading my mind like a Gypsy) said, "Hey, look at this...an SF-VI companion piece for that 4" you got from me yesterday in a 2" version". I looked at it and knew I was done in when I saw the barrel stamped "DS II" instead of "SF-VI". Same gun but entirely different animal if you are into gun nuance. I am. As I understand it when Colt decided to make a follow-on to the Detective Special they still had an inventory of DS's to sell so they named the new revolver the "Small Frame 6" or "SF-VI" to prevent ambiguity in order to differentiate the guns. Once the inventory of "old" DS's was cleared they named the new revolver the "Detective Special II" or "DS II". So. No duplication here. I wouldn't have bought this revolver on Monday, nice as it is, if it was a a 2" SF-VI...but a "DS II"? Yup. He said, "Trade? Or make me an offer." I was all traded out from Sunday. He got 4 nice revolver safe queens off me. Paid him cash. Now have 4 DS-types and 4 Cobra's.
Ironically, on the way over to the bank in his big fat Mercedes he broke a back molar while chewing gum. He showed me the chunk of molar and I told him, "Hey, ya know, crowns are going about $1000 a pop nowadays." How fortuitous for him, huh?
Never in my life did I ever expect to hold an SF-VI in my hands but getting an SF-VI and DS II over a 2 day period? ...I am blessed. Love Colt snubbies.
