Two people + 1 Gun equals Two dead

Cops kill couple at luxury oceanfront resort
Police say duo refused to drop gun; bungalow rents for $2,200 a night

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. - A man and a woman were killed at a luxury oceanfront resort when police fired into their bungalow after they refused to drop a handgun, authorities said.

Police were called Sunday to the Montage Resort and Spa by a security guard who said a man and a woman were engaged in a domestic dispute, said police Sgt. Jason Kravetz.

Several subsequent 911 callers said a naked woman was running around the hotel waving a gun, authorities said.

Police arrived at the pair's room minutes later, and a gun was passed between the man and the woman, who both pointed it at police, authorities said.

Two officers fired into the room after the couple refused to drop the gun.

Police searched the room after the shooting and found a loaded semiautomatic handgun and extra ammunition.

'An anomaly'
The deaths were the first homicides in Laguna Beach in nearly four years, Kravetz said.

"For something like this to happen here is an anomaly, especially at that location," he said. "It's a very quiet community."

The 262-room resort hotel opened in 2003 and is popular with celebrities.
Bungalows like the one where the couple was found rent for $2,200 a night, according to the hotel's Web site.

The names of the dead were withheld pending notification of their relatives.

The case has been referred to the Orange County district attorney's office, which investigates all officer-involved shootings.

Possibly one pointed it at the cops and was shot, and the other picked it up and did the same.

2 were arguing but when the cops showed up they each took turns to wave the gun around and ended getting killed themselves? that's a bizzar tale,

The simple math of 2 people and 1 gun may not be that simple. It may be that one had the gun and the other made furtive moves that made the person look like s/he was trying to produce another gun or some other action as noted like trying to get to the gun after the person with it was shot.

It is sort of interesting to me that they both died. I would think that they would call for an ambulance right away. Makes me think that the cops emptied their magazines on them. But of course it's just my speculation.

I hope the cops "emptied their magazines" on these two if they chose to point their gun at the police if the Police ID'd themselves and told them to drop the weapon. I also hope all Police aimed for center of mass and then reloaded.

Even in the most crazy-expensive parts of California, nature has a way of weeding out the stupid.

Twould appear that either we do not have access to all the facts or something is a bit fishy. Perhaps a bit of both. Laguna is a very upscale posh area. People waving guns about in public is a rarity there when compared to say....Compton. While I find it suspicious that two persons were killed for pointing only 1 gun at police officers I will not say such a scenario is impossible. Very unlikely but not impossible. Hopefully further facts will emerge to shed light on this and other pertinent facts will not be
conveniently ignoreed if deemed suitable. If memory serves police services for Laguna are provided by OC Sheriff via contract. Hopefully another large agency will be contracted to investigate this incident.
