Authorities say man accidentally shot at gun store

WEATHERFORD, Texas — A man was accidentally shot in the face at a gun store as an employee handled a weapon, authorities said.

Perry L. Cheatham, 69, who lives in the community of Agnes near Weatherford, remained in critical condition at a Fort Worth hospital Wednesday, a day after being shot below his left eye, the Parker County Sheriff's Office said.

Cheatham was sitting at a counter at The Gun Store when a customer handed a loaded 9 mm handgun to an employee for inspection, said Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler. The employee later told deputies he was trying to make sure it was unloaded when it discharged, Fowler said.

"To say he was shaken up would be an understatement," Fowler, referring to the employee, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in a story published on its Web site Wednesday.

No criminal charges have been filed, The Dallas Morning News reported in its online edition.

Four Roolz

Broke multiple roolz.

Pointing it at something not meant to destroy.

Finger on trigger before meaning to shoot.

Oblivious of "target" and backstop.

Gun store closest to me has a sand barrel. When they have to clear a gun, it goes to the barrel.

The employee later told deputies he was trying to make sure it was unloaded when it discharged . . .
I wonder if I would keep such a person on the payroll after that.

Man that sucks! I wonder how many of the rules he broke (slam fire or booger hook on the trigger?), obviously pointing it in an unsafe direction (your own face), not treating it as if it's loaded (which it was).

Would a nice reasonable out of court settlement with the store, employee, and the customer who handed over a loaded gun be in order here?

The employee later told deputies he was trying to make sure it was unloaded when it discharged, Fowler said.

By pointing it in a mans face and pulling the trigger?
