Authorities say man accidentally shot at gun store
WEATHERFORD, Texas — A man was accidentally shot in the face at a gun store as an employee handled a weapon, authorities said.
Perry L. Cheatham, 69, who lives in the community of Agnes near Weatherford, remained in critical condition at a Fort Worth hospital Wednesday, a day after being shot below his left eye, the Parker County Sheriff's Office said.
Cheatham was sitting at a counter at The Gun Store when a customer handed a loaded 9 mm handgun to an employee for inspection, said Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler. The employee later told deputies he was trying to make sure it was unloaded when it discharged, Fowler said.
"To say he was shaken up would be an understatement," Fowler, referring to the employee, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in a story published on its Web site Wednesday.
No criminal charges have been filed, The Dallas Morning News reported in its online edition.
