In what time period? Not yearly...not by a long shot. You have to figure in mortality all across the board.
If the population were only to grow 7% in a single year, the population would *double* in 10 years.

From what I can gather from reading various studies, this is probably the best possible explanation.LOL on the doubling population. Lots of populations are doubling. It just takes a really long time for some. We have more than doubled the human population in my lifetime. It only took 42 years.
