Home break-in turns fatal when occupant shoots intruder

By: Candace Bush, Staff February 05, 2003

A 26-year-old suspected burglar was fatally shot last Sunday night by a Katy area homeowner after the intruder reportedly attacked him with a knife.

The intruder was hiding in a bedroom when the the family returned home, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Department.

The man had apparently broken into the home in 19000 block of Misty Cove Drive while the family was away.

The victim, a white male whose identity has not been released, hid in a bedroom after the family returned home, deputies said.

After the family - husband, wife and three children - returned home, the woman entered the bedroom and discovered the intruder, who was armed with a knife.

She fled from the bedroom, slammed the door shut and attempted to hold it closed to keep the intruder trapped, the report said.

Her 32-year-old husband then retrieved a handgun before the man forced his way out of the bedroom and reportedly attacked him with the knife.

The homeowner then fired the gun, fatally striking the intruder, deputies said.

The Sheriff's Department has not released the names of the family.

The incident is still under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff's Department Homicide Division.

Good for them.

Of course, as far as HCI is concerned, "the presence of a handgun just needlessly escalated the violence".

Good on them, and special kudos to the wife who had the presence of mind to slam and hold the door delaying the scumbag! :neener: :neener:

That’s what I like to see, husband and wife working together for the betterment of their family. :D

I only have one thing to say to the husband....

"Nice shootin' Tex."

This is what happens when people are allowed to defend themselves.
