I was wondering what type of action is used in a chain gun. My guess is that it is rotating bolt but have nothing to base that on.

Thanks for the link, very interesting.
In summary,
A "chain gun" is a a weapon (typically a machine gun or cannon) using an external power system for the cycling action.
It does not use the chemical energy and recoil of the round.
Typically called a chain gun as the feed mechanism is usually a sprocket ans chain assembly.
Not to be confused with mini-gun or other Gatling types
