Typical armslist scam to buy

Cashiers checks are absolutely not safe - oh the funds may go into your account quickly, but the bank can pull them right back out up to 30 days later.

Do some research on cashiers checks - it's simply not worth the risk, and additionally some bank employees aren't even clear on the finer points of the law regarding cashiers checks.
Oh, and don't lose a cashiers check - depending on the bank/state, you may never see the money, or have to buy a bond (basically as insurance for the bank) in case the cashiers check is ever found and presented for payment - or a fraudulent one is presented - and you are STILL on the hook for the full value.

Just got an email from the exact same scammer "
Mark Jason Velasco" I figure it s a fishing scam to see if they can get a real email address to send spam to or see if they can get some sucker to actually play along

It is just like those scam letters that say they are from the FBI. Most are stopped by my spam filter; but some get through. I just forward them to the real FBI. . . let them deal with it.

My understanding of "clearing the bank" is when the check or cashiers check clears the issuing entity, not when it is credited to your account by your bank. All banks are going to credit your account when you deposit a check, you just have to understand that if the item is bogus or bounces for insufficient funds for a personal check your bank is going to take the money back. I have accepted personal checks and cashiers checks for items but didn't ship the item until my bank said it cleared the issuing bank. I make that clear to prospective buyers in my ads so there is no complaining that I took too long to ship the item. There is no way to get burned if you do it that way.

Postal money orders aren't 100% safe either. I've read articles about phony money orders that look very real and instances where blank money orders have been stolen and used to pay someone. You really need to make sure they clear the post office also.
