It is well known that Winchester 231 is the same powder as Hodgdon HP38. (I've seen that stated many times in numerous places...)
Herein lies the problem --
Looking at load data for 44 Magnum in Richard Lee's "Second Edition of Modern Reloading", I see some discrepancies. For instance, for a 240 gr lead bullet, the starting load for 231 is shown as 10.2 gr, where the HP38 starting charge is 5.5 grains. For a 210 gr jacketed bullet, 231 shows to be 10.8 gr to start, while HP38 is 7.5 grains. I welcome any comments regarding these numbers... Thanks!
