ok, at yet another website i am a member of, that one for the "Canik" brand, there is a poster that said this:

"So, about a month ago I ordered online and prepaid for a brand new Canik TP9 Elite SC through a local gun range.
To make a long story short, someone obviously took their liberties with it before I was able to pick it up.
Is that business as usual in the gun world? "

others have responded that thier Canik came with a trigger seal as well as a slide seal?

mine didn't, and another member there said it happened to him 5 times.(no seals)

ok, so, i did some searching and found some US Customs sites, regarding searching imports.

so for you people, have you had any experiences with guns shipped from another country (and let's not forget that Turkey and Russia are "reported" to be buddy-buddy now a days. (which could be the reasoning behind inspecting Canik more nowadays)

so what would be your "learned opinions" on US Customs opening say whether a batch of shipments per boatload, or ALL the boxes of foreign guns imports?

thanks in advance

as usual, admins/mods, if this is in the wrong thread, i know you will move it.

I've received at least three hundred Canik pistols since they started coming in.....not a single one came from an importer, distributor or retailer with a "trigger seal" or "slide seal" whatever those are. To be clear, not a factory "seal" or a US Customs seal.

Hang tags....yes. But no factory seal to indicate the slide was racked or the trigger pulled.

In eleven and a half years, 22,000+ firearms I've yet to see a US Customs sticker or marking on any imported firearm.

A few years back I ordered a Falco IWB holster for my 1911 Government. They are made in Slovakia. It came in a soft sided package and with the holster being shape fitted for the gun, the profile of the package was of a gun. Yep, it was evident the package had been torn open and it was stamped it had been opened to be inspected.

why would customs even care? it is legal to import them from turkey and they are documented as being firearms. Maybe some agent was just curious. or had nothing better to do that day.

i wouldn't know why, maybe searching for drugs? i dunno, the o/p on the other site is ticked off that when he opened up the case, the gun looked (to him) "took liberties" with it?

mine looked fantastic, the guy at the gun store (great place in my opinion) had to cut open the case seal, (which was also on my Glock and on my CZ). and like i said, no seal of any kind, on the gun itself.

but the others claim they HAD such seals..??

I've purchased a couple of Canik pistols. I have no idea what a "slide seal" or a "trigger seal" is.

If the pistol had been played with I would suspect the gun range.

Customs agents don't go through shipments piece by piece. A very small percentage of stuff is ever inspected.

that's what i'd be thinking (small random searches by Customs). he did buy it from the local gun range where he is at.

maybe the first Canik they ever sold? and curiosity got the best of them?

i just wonder why the others (on that site) claim they had such seals?

I read the thread in question. He's wondering why it has finger prints on it and the bag it was in was disturbed.

All normal stuff from a dealer verifying the serial number when logging it into the bound book.

oh, i didn't see where he wondered about finger prints. i think i just read your response there as well.

thanks.

As a very long-shot guess--and very much a guess--this sounds like a situation where this was an individual import , and not a bulk import.
Most imported arms come through a licensed importer who goes through all the varied regs in both the sending and receiving nations. But, an individual can have an arm specifically imported to themselves (to their FFL in the US). Now, instead of being in crate or a CONEX with customs seals, it will be an individual package. So, it's going to be "different" and different always gets more attention. Also, the pile of regs is finicky, miss one and the rules say to fine-tooth comb the imported item. Or not.

Ok, here we go, this is why I'm remembering this:

I highly doubt that the local range went through the trouble of ordering one pistol from Turkey. Those pistols are in stock here in the US. https://grabagun.com/firearms/handg...th-red-dot-grey-9mm-3-6-barrel-15-rounds.html

The time frame alone indicates that it wasn't imported directly.

Most likely the local range didn't have one on the shelf, hence the need to order it.
