Hello All,

I have an early Uberti “One of One Thousand” engraved Winchester 1873 sporting rifle. This rifle is fully scroll engraved with additional engraved images of an elk and a large cat on a nickel plated frame. It is a 44-40 with a straight stock and from the Uberti “AE” code I know that this rifle was made in 1979.

- Does anyone know about these early Uberti 1 of 1000 series of Winchester 1873 sporting rifles???

I cannot find any concrete Uberti information such as:

- When were these rifles first introduced (apparently these early versions were discontinued in 1985).
- Actual number produced.
- Were they all special ordered.
- Were they all hand engraved.
- Straight or pistol grip stocks.
- Checkered Wood.
- Calibers.

On the Internet, over the past few years, I have seen photos of five or six Uberti 1 of 1000 rifles for sale. Usually these rifles were early Uberti 1873 framed rifles with the thinner wrist area and with straight stocks. They were also import stamped by either Allen Arms or Navy Arms (I suppose there may be other importers as well). Apparently, you can still order from Uberti (or an importer) a “1 of 1000” style engraved 1873 or 1866 rifles.

Thanks,

Alan
