Gotta have one! Winchester 1876 replica coming out!!!

Gunblast.com is reporting that a company called Chapparel Arms of Italy is set to begin shipping large frame 1876 Winchester replica lever action rifles!
Calibers are to be .45/75, .45-60, and .40-65 as the original.
They tested an early rifle in .40-60 and the results were better than favorable.(of course.)

I have been pestering Uberti/Beretta for a few years to bring a replica 1876 rifle out, apparently this new offering has beat them to it.

Several distributers including Accu-Sport have commited to carrying the rifles.

I have to dig the checkbook out, a .45-60 will be mine if this actually comes to pass.
I am praying a carbine version will be made available.
I have been lusting for one of these for years!

Do your weightlifting while you await delivery, a '76 is the heaviest SOB I know of. They feel heavier than better balanced guns that actually weigh more.

The Centennial Model? The Mounty gun? What an odd choice. At least they could have offered it in a currently produced caliber. Better yet, they should have skipped it over and went right to making the 1886 in .45-70.

Now you understand why I want a carbine.
About two pounds lighter and a lot better balanced for such a large rifle.

As for the 1886, plenty of the Winchesters and Brownings floating around now, I already own an 86, half magazine, lightweight rifle, don't need another.

Heck I don't NEED a '76 either, but I want one bad!

The 1886 has been available for some time now. I think Miroku has been making them under contract for FNH. They're available in both solid frame and take-down models, and in several calibers (including 45-90/45-70). They carry the Winchester brand. CDNN Investments has had them in the last few catalogs I saw.

The reason for the 1876 is that nobody has been making it for a long time, and the rise of cowboy action shooting has created a big demand for it. The Uberti 1873 replicas are probably the most popular rifles in CAS. The 1876 is just a scaled up 1873. It won't be legal as a "main match" CAS rifle, but it will be legal for side matches.

Wow that is good news. Hard to find ANY 1876s at mickey mouse gunshows but except for the high quality antique gun shows. Just another example of Winchester missing the boat nowadays which is why they are closing down domestic production.

Might have to look into that. Had a 76 .40-60 with accompanying bullet mold years ago but sold it. Never fired it even though it had a decent bore, and all in all should have kept it.

As a kid I knew a family that had a pretty nice .50-95. It got sold to a passing collector and I hope he appreciated it...

Neat old rifles. When the "Invaders" were apprehended in the Johnson Co. War in 1892 an inventory was made of their weaponry, along with srerial numbers and calibers. There were a lot of 1876s in the pile.

Yep, If you are a western history fan, Johnny Ringo's body was found with a Winchester 76 leaning against the same tree he was propped up against.
A .45/75 rifle containing nine cartridges in the magazine.
Even though it is pretty tough for a non-resident to get a permit/license, I am thinking a .45-60 carbine would be just right for Wisconsin black bear.

The gun we tested is a production rifle from the first shipment of 80 guns to enter the country. We could have tested a pre-production sample last Fall, but we always insist on a production gun. The gun weighs about 10 pounds, but balances well, and does not feel quite that heavy.
The statement:
"They tested an early rifle in .40-60 and the results were better than favorable.(of course.)"
seems to insinuate that they received a favorable review for some other reason than that the gun deserved a favorable review. I could find no fault with the rifle. I purchased the rifle, and ordered two more immediately. I want one in each of the chamberings offered. With an MSRP of only $839, it is priced well below the Uberti rifle that will be available in a couple of months.
