blackpowder bob: Who has the best price on the Uberti 1860 Army. Looking to buy one.

Local or on the WEB?
Buffalo Arms, on the WEB, and here's my reason. Cimmaron sells a high quality Uberti product. Their prices are probably the highest also. But, they distribute large quantities of their products to Buffalo Arms which in turn gives great competitive prices with other Uberti dealers. In the long run, you pay the average going price for a tuned up job.

I did a double take - - - No; it was a tripple take, on that post of black_powder_Rob's. I thought for a moment that blackpowder bob was answering his own post.:D
I'm sure Dixie Guns do furnish a top notch Uberti, and their prices are lower than Cimmaron's, but I've never purchased one of their's to compare the quality between the two. I have bought Cabela's Uberti's, and they will replace a bad product, but they don't inspect them prior to shipment, so if you get one be sure and check for loose screws, burrs, and nipple seatings before you take it out to shoot.
Now Tomahawk674's answer for the texasjacks guns is the main outlet for Cimmaron's tuned and pre-inspected Uberti's, and usually go for the same price as direct from Cimmaron.

What part of the country are you in? A couple shops around Kansas City have good deals. I recently picked up a Uberti fluted '60 army for $325 OTD.

I frequently see used 1860's in good condition in local gun stores.

I like Dixie Gun Works and have had good luck on Uberti guns from them. I've also bought from Midway USA, although prices are higher -- but they sometimes have stock when others do not.

I've never bought from Cimmaron but understand they have a special relationship with Uberti in that they can order guns with special features, original markings, and models that other dealers don't have.

A dealer at our local club here in KC selling new in box steel frame for 150.00
Will see him again tommorrow. Our Black powder club is having a 3-day shoot.
here in KC.

Thanks everyone. Ordered the Uberti from Buffalo Arms and the Big Brown Truck should drop it off tomorrow. Now where to get extra fluted clyinders, or does it matter?

Someone want to fill me in. I'm new to this BP pistol stuff. What is a Cimmaron Uberti and how does one that Cimmaron Arms sells differ from any other Uberti?

t2e

Cimmaron Arms has their own name stamped on their Uberti's and charges extra for it, plus they claim a higher level of fit and finish and some additional features. See the posts above.
Then they also import and sell regular Uberti's under their subsidiary dealer name of Texas Jack's.

The spectrum continues even more. As Uberti guns sold to the USA are stamped Cimmaron Arms. However some of these places like Cimmaron Arms require a higher standard of finish and you are usually getting a better quality gun. For the most part most of us just stick with guns from Pietta and Uberti as these are still in production and parts are readily available. Unlike others that are getting harder to find.

A my friend ordered a Uberti .45colt winchester '73, here, in Italy.
It's arrived with the barrel marked "Cimarron":)
So i have understand some things, the mark is impressed directly from uberti, and the general quality is the same of all the other Uberti products, He payed the normal price for a normal Uberti.

The name "Cimarron" led me to wonder where I've heard that name before and what does the word Cimarron even mean?

These seem to be most of the different slants to it:

1. I vaguely recall something about "Cimmaron Strip" which I found was a Western TV series that lasted for 1 season:

Notice that the TV show was set in a real community named "Cimarron City", Oklahoma which had a population of 110 in the 2000 Census.

2. There were 2 movies named "Cimarron" based on an original novel of the same name. One was made in 1931 and the other was when it was re-made in 1960.
The original version won 3 Oscars and had 4 other Academy nominations. The Ocars it won included Best Picture, Best Art Direction and Best Writing, Adaptation. It was about the time period when Oklahoma became a state from 1889 - 1930.

The novel "Cimarron" was written by Edna Ferber (1887 - 1968):
She won a Pulitzer Prize in 1924 for an earlier novel. "Cimarron" was a best seller about the Oklahoma land rush of 1889.

3. "Cimarron" is also the name of a place in New Mexico:

CIMARRON: Once the home of Anasazi, Jicarilla Apache, and Ute Indians, Cimarron, located on the Mountain Branch of the Santa Fe Trail, became the hub of a vast mining and ranching empire in the mid to late 19th century. The pioneer spirit which gave rise to Cimarron brought the famous and infamous alike. Western legends such as Kit Carson, Black Jack Ketchum, Charles Kennedy, Clay Allison, and Will James have each added flair to the area’s rich history.

In Spanish, Cimarron means “wild and unruly,” harking back to the historical turbulence of this now peaceful community. The area was once part of the controversial Maxwell Land Grant, which eventually caused the Colfax County War in the late 1800s. In addition to Cimarron’s rich Native American heritage, Spanish settlers, homesteaders, trappers, traders, and many other colorful characters made this beautiful area their home.

In the 1800s, few towns had such a reputation for gunplay and violence as Cimarron, New Mexico. Once luridly lawless, today this peaceful town echoes the sights and sounds of its historic past. You can still see ruts of the Santa Fe Trail and our museums and historic buildings offer fun and informative activities. Nearby recreation abounds in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Cimarron offers a colorful history and plenty to do any time of year. The sparkle of trail campfires and the howl of coyotes remind us that the old west and the new west overlap.

4. There are the 2 dictionary definitions of "Cimarron":

Sense 1

Cimarron - A river that rises in northeastern New Mexico and flows eastward into Oklahoma where it becomes a tributary of the Arkansas River (Cimarron River)

Sense 2 cimarron

cimarron - Wild sheep of mountainous regions of western North America having massive curled horns (bighorn sheep; Ovis canadensis; Rocky Mountain bighorn; Rocky Mountain sheep; bighorn; cimarron)

So there you have it, everything that you ever wanted to know about the word "cimarron"!
Now doesn't any of this new found knowledge make everyone just want to go out and buy a "Cimarron"? :D
