Anyone know if Uberti serial #'s their open top frames and barrels with the same number or not? Think I got a "bitsa" gun. Cylinder and barrel stamped the same, but frame has a different number.

Thanx guys. This is an 1862 Rebel Confederate in 36 cal. consignment piece I picked up a while back. It shoots OK even though the arbor's got some wiggle. <shrug> Figuring to modify it into a "Firefly" gun so no prob on it being a bitsa.

Prolly be awhile on that. Firewood season is here, but I'm slowly figgering out the mods and how to attach 'em while retaining function. At this point I'm leaning towards removing the loading lever bits and using the cutout under the barrel as a place for a mounting bracket/frame for the add-ons. Already added a rib with pillars to the barrel that I had left over from a shotgun barrel chop.

Firefly was an unfortunately short-lived TV series. The movie Serenity is the wrap-up to that series.

In the show the good guys used a variety of guns. Most were modified to make them more futuristic looking. The main characters' guns include a mare's leg, a Le Mat, and a heavily modified Taurus model 85.

You're making Mal's gun, aren't ya?

Firefly was a great show. An island of reality in an ocean of diarrhea.

It's also an example of the stupidity of the execs at Fox. That show could have had a long run, but Fox didn't like it for a few stupid reasons.
Yet, they've kept the crappy Simpsons on the air since I was a senior in high school.

I can't wait to see how Captain Reynold's gun turns out.
It's actually my wallpaper on my laptop.
Yeah, I'm a rabid fan who would like 5 minutes alone with the jerkwads who cancelled it.

Jaymo- Nope, not Mal's, though that'd be an awesome piece to have. His gun is the modified Taurus 85. They cut off the grip frame, fabbed a whole new one and welded it on, then covered everything with a custom cast bronze shell.

What I am pondering is more along the lines of Zoe's backup piece. From what I recall of a picture I saw of it once it's a Colt open top with some manner of machined cylinder slung under the barrel.

On my version I want to go with brass bits vs. shiny steel. Always did like the look of brass & blue.

Have you seen a side-by-side of the two different "guns" that were used for Mal's pistol (series vs Serenity)?
My wallpaper is the one from the series.
I'm familiar with the bronze casting that encapsulated a Taurus 85.
I'm thinking they removed quite a few parts from the 85, to make it fit, and have them not show.
It looks like they used a 51 Navy barrel.

I'll have to pop in the Blue Ray discs of the series and the movie and drool over the guns again.
I don't clearly recall Zoe's backup piece. I usually pay more attention to her in those tight pants.
Jayne Cobb's LeMat is one of my favorites from the show.
So is Zoe's Mare's Leg.
Then, there's Vera, the full bore autolock.
Cobbs collection of boomsticks is a gun nut's dream.

Though not BP, I still like the longslide Star Firestar that River used in one episode.
That, and the old Astra 400?, 600? that the fed used in the pilot.

If you want more details on Mal's piece you need to pick up the Firefly Official Companion, Volume 1. Volume 2 has Vera and the Le Mat in it. And yes, that was an Astra 400.

Finally a pic! Just finished crafting & silver soldering the sights on. Rear one is canted a bit and I might redo that if it bugs me enough. At the moment she throws right up, sights aligned.:D

Updates on the project will appear in this forum under a Firefly title, unless the mods think it belongs in the gunsmithing forum.

Sweet.

Rant on.
Firefly overview:
Great show that was killed in the first season because Fox execs felt that Mal's character wasn't happy enough and it didn't extoll the virtues of the powers that be, who screw over the populace.
Can't have a show that doesn't keep the sheep fat, dumb, and happy. They might rebel.

Rant off.

Can't wait to see how it turns out.
