Hi: I just bought a Uberti Repro of the Winchester 1873 Sporting Rifle. Beautiful Rifle but I would like someone to point me in the direction of a book or website that might give me Takedown/Field-stip directions. I want to be ble to clean and lube the action. Really appreciate any help. It's .45 Colt, 24" barrel. The Uberti instructions are no help unless I need to know how to load the rifle. TIA

For practical purposes you can do everything necessary by pulling the side plates, preferably one side at a time. Everything is right there in front of you. Open the action and you can lift out the toggle on the accessible side, do a little cleanup with Q-tips, and lube as needed. Full disassembly is possible but gets a little tricky and doesn't gain you much. A small dab of grease (chassis lube type) on the spots where the tensioning springs bear would help.

This ease of maintenance is one reason why the 73 Winchester was so popular in its day.

Thanks Guys. I also ordered a book someone advised that has some Uberti specific advice. I appreciate the help. Sorry about all the typos in my original post. I guess coming home with a new gun messes up my thought process, whats left of it anyway! :banghead:
