this is just bizarre as a weapon for criminal use a rubber mallet has to be way down the list of improvised weapons

I don't see anywhere in the story where it says they are actually seeking to ban mallets. Let's try not to use the same sensationalism the media uses against us.

This is off-topic. Though it does just go to show that banning guns doesn't reduce crime, it only causes criminals to make substitutions.
