Nice setup Toledo. I also have a topper and you just ignited my next project. I have a question for you. Where exactly do you start measuring the barrel to shorten it? Thanks

Measure with the action closed using a dowel or cleaning rod through the muzzel to the "bolt face." 18 inches is measured parallel to the axis of the bore. You want the 18 inch mark to be inside the barrel when the rod/dowel in straight, parallel to the axis.

Do not fool around. cut no shorter than 18.5 inches.

Dude--I wish I had not seen this. I have a Baikal O/U that is built like a tank, ugly as a mud fence, shoots fine. It is PERFECT for the coach gun thing. It has a vent rib, so cutting will require a re-solder job, as well as re-threading the tubes; cutting the stock, adding the pad, Hmmmm........

Alex Hamilton lives down the street, reckon what he would charge for the hack job........or do I keep it as a dove field loner? Wait....I have a few others for that; Crap----it would be SO COOL. I really wish I had not read this. Decisions.........

Shouldn't. Just cut it at the front of one of the supports for the rib. You will have to fill the gap between the barrels, though. I like 5 minute epoxy with black dye for that. And you certainly don't have to rethread it for chokes, unless you don't like cylinder bore. IMO, CB is fine for a coach. Mine is.

I reload both .410 and .45colt, so the H&R survivor has been tempting me for some time.
I like to keep things simple:
.30-06 Handi-rifle
12 ga topper
2- 12 ga slug guns
Huntsman 12ga slug/.50 bp

His & Hers Tamers

I bought an H&R .410 Tamer a couple of summers ago. My wife liked it so much that it's in her vehicle most of the time. A couple of months back I ran across a 20ga for a $100 nib. So now I have one for my vehicle. The .410 with the added buttcuff carries 13 rounds the 20ga. outfitted the same carries 8rounds. They are really a great little truck gun.

I am doing this with a mossberg 500 in 20 gauge that was given to me when my cousin got into some trouble with the law. She couldn't keep it and knew I wanted it. I cut the barrel down to 20", I am gonna ream it out and tap it for screw in chokes and cut the stock down about an inch. It will be much longer than yours but will still be very short. I have the $5 side saddle and it will also hold 2 shells in the butt. Plus I have a bandoleer that will make a nice sling to bring me up to 37 rounds of ammo, if I don't keep the gun loaded. I will simply use the HiViz snap on sight rather than drilling it for a bead.

Twill make a nice truck beater gun.

Good idea, I've got an old H&R single shot with a broken transfer bar pin that's waiting for some modification. I'd be a true "single shot" if I used it as-is: I'd have to slide a piece of metal between the hammer and pin to get it to fire.
