I normally don't hunt waterfowl in the early seasons, because it's simply too hot. Being in a coffin blind in camo on an 80 degree day is miserable.

I've got an opportunity to hunt that is simply too good to turn down, but all of the camo I have is mid to heavyweight. I need it LIGHT... it's going to be in the mid-80s for the next week, and I can't stand the thought of sweating to death in my heavy camo.

Anybody make a mesh camo? Some other superlight fabric?

Thanks!

Someone sent me an e-mail a couple years ago with photos of two young ladies with camo body paint. I wish I could post it here; it was very nice… I doubt you could do the body paint thing justice, so you’re probably better off with netting. :)

There is a some light weight high tech clothing out, Cabella's carry it. I have one of their shirts that has a SPF rating of 50 and made of the same material that wicks the sweat away from your body for cooling. I use it here (Texas) and it helps. It works best if you can have air moving though for the cooling to work good. I have a blind similar to what you speak of. I normally open all of the windows to help with ventilation. But if there is no wind your going to cook if it's in the sun. I have switched over to just the camo cloth (3d) so it's more open. I use 4 post to build my blind, back open since I only bought one and should get another to give me overhead cover too.

I had a set of mesh cammo a jacket and a pair of pants that went over you cloths. I used to use when hunting coyotes in NM or Arizona during the hot season. I wish I still had it but I don't. If I remember right I bought it at a K-Mart in southern NM about 20 years ago it was advertised as hot weather dove hunting gear.

Maybe some of our hot weather hunters down in Texas have seen this stuff it's cheap crud but mine lasted for ten years or so with the liberal application of thread and duct tape.

Here check it out. It was very similar to this...

It's been in the 80's here, and we just use short sleeve camo shirts and face paint. If yer worried about the arms, paint them too!

Here is me hunting doves in what I hunted geese in that morning, minus the face paint.

I don't have a pic of it ready, but I have a 3D camo jump suit of mesh. Makes me look like a tree. :D I love it! It's great in teal season. The zipper is busted on it, but my wife will fix it when she gets around to it.

I got it at Bass Pro some years ago. Worth the 100 bucks I gave for it, can tell ya that! One problem with mesh, though, it don't keep the skeeters out. That's a problem down here in teal season.

It should be easy to find light tan or olive colored clothing at your local Salvation Army Store. Buy some flat black and brown spray paint to form your own broken patterns.

I've had very good luck wearing this shirt for close range archery hunting.

Hiding is necessary for birds. Ducks have good eyes and see color. It don't have to be some brand name camo, but camo sure helps. You also need to hide or cover your face. That'll spook 'em every time, don't care how purty you are. :D Deer are blind as a bat by comparison to birds. They cannot see color.

If you're going to be in a layout blind, just throw on a brown T-shirt and paint your face or grab a mesh mask. I've shot waterfowl with a lot less.

If you are in a Blind, why do you need Camo ??????????

If you are in a Blind, why do you need Camo
That's actually a good question...,

Because most blinds are designed to hide the hunter in a resting, not shooting position. Often the birds will circle at a higher altitude and out of range, look over the blind and the decoys and listen to the calls, and then decide to come down and land, and they have eyesight better than humans. If they see something that's the wrong color, or an odd movement, they often shy away. If the hunter can see out of the blind, then you can bet the birds probably can see into the blind

Also when the hunter moves from the resting-observing position into the shooting position, the movement can attract the attention of the birds, if it isn't too fast a movement, and if there isn't a sudden color change, the birds often hesitate or ignore the movement, and you can then shoot them. Ducks especially are very maneuverable in flight, and it only takes a little "jink" in their flight path for a hunter to miss.

I think you'd be better in hot weather with a cammo t-shirt and face mask plus a cammo ball cap and dark glasses or face paint with a ball cap and glasses, than more cammo and no face covering. You can get thicker face masks but that would also be hotter.

Thanks Gents! Natman, that looks like good stuff. Mcgunner, what's the brand on that camo mesh suit?

Regarding camo in the blind-- I can't tell you how many times someone has been out of the blind for a bathroom break, to stretch, or to pick up birds and another flight comes in-- that wouldn't ever happen if you weren't in camo.

I use the ultra thin mesh suit I bought from Bass Pro about 10 years ago for $30 when bow hunting as it is routinely over 80 degrees. I wear shorts, a t-shirt, some light weight boots and the suit and it works just fine for concealment. Bugs can bite through the suit so a thermacell works great and it tends to get wrapped up in briars very easily but it beats sweating to death.

I figured you'd ask. LOL It's been over 10 years I bought that suit, whenever Bass Pro opened in Katy. I got 'em at Bass Pro. They're very open mesh, too open to offer protection from mosquitoes. I've been thinkin' of getting a new suit that's mosquito proof, something like this.......

Mine is a one piece jump suit and came with a 3D mesh head cover, mesh 3D gloves, and a 3D mesh game/shell bag.
