I have been thinking of getting an ultrasonic cleaner lately for those of you that have them and use them to clean your handguns what solutions do you use? I think something like mineral spirits would work good for removing everything on a all steel gun but it worries me on a polymer framed handgun. so my question is what works best for you and what firearms do you use it on?

SLiP 2000 725 gun cleaner. Water based, will not hurt polymer and cleans off carbon. You can buy it in 1 gallon containers.

Thanks for the advice but I want to try to stay away from water based solutions if I can without hurting anything.

It doesn't look like mineral spirits will hurt polymer either after some research. I think a modified version of ed's red is what I'm going to try first. I have the prefect test gun, my poor hi point gets all the abuse lol.

Gonna try
1/4 ATF
3/4 Mineral spirits
1 ounce Murphy's oil soap.

Ultrasonic should be here later this week.

I'used eds red on the bbl only didn't do much. I tried it on the slide action and had to use compressed air to get the red out. Otherwise it drips bad.

You're missing a critical point.

The solution has to be compatible with the power of the ultrasonic bath or you'll loose the energy that does the work in popping off the gunk.

Stick to the products that made for ultrasonic cleaners and you'll get better results.

I agree with hso. Do not experiment with solutions. Also, You can damage what you are trying to clean. Use what has been proven to work.
