Ultrasound cleaners - any good for gun cleaning?

I found that you still need to use a solvent to clean off the residue from ultrasonic cleaners. Use Gunscribber or CRC Brake Cleaner (in the red can).

Hoppe's #9 is the best lead remover in my opinion.

hoppes #9 benchrest is a better overall lead/copper remover. just use it in place of the regular stuff. you won't be disappointed and one less chemical to use. doesn't smell as "good" as ole'#9 though.

As GRIZ22 says, you can't just put the part in an ultra sonic tank filled with plain water. You need to have a good solvent in there in order for the US (ultra sonic) to do its job.

Having said that though, they really do speed up the process and get the best out of whatever solvent that you're using.

Just a word of caution though.

1) Stay away from highly flammable solvents. I use VM&P Naptha at work with no problems.

2) Don't lay the part in a glass or metal container, as the vibrations will cause the contact points to wear off any protective coating - i.e. after a short while the contact points will be all nice and shiny.
