This may have already been posted, but I received this from the VCDL today. It's some interesting results. I never would have imagined that an anti-gun organization would release data that indicates, to me at least, that our RKBA has a positive effect on crime rates. :what: I haven't tracked down the original study yet, but I will post a link once I do.

Scotland tops list of world's most violent countries
By Katrina Tweedie

A UNITED Nations report has labelled Scotland the most violent
country in the developed world, with people three times more likely
to be assaulted than in America.

England and Wales recorded the second highest number of violent
assaults while Northern Ireland recorded the fewest.

The study, based on telephone interviews with victims of crime in 21
countries, found that more than 2,000 Scots were attacked every week,
almost ten times the official police figures. They include non-sexual
crimes of violence and serious assaults.

Violent crime has doubled in Scotland over the past 20 years and
levels, per head of population, are now comparable with cities such
as Rio de Janeiro, Johannesburg and Tbilisi.

The attacks have been fuelled by a "booze and blades" culture in the
west of Scotland which has claimed more than 160 lives over the past
five years. Since January there have been 13 murders, 145 attempted
murders and 1,100 serious assaults involving knives in the west of
Scotland. The problem is made worse by sectarian violence, with
hospitals reporting higher admissions following Old Firm matches.

David Ritchie, an accident and emergency consultant at Glasgow's
Victoria Infirmary, said that the figures were a national disgrace.
"I am embarrassed as a Scot that we are seeing this level of
violence. Politicians must do something about this problem. This is a
serious public health issue. Violence is a cancer in this part of the
world," he said.

Detective Chief Superintendent John Carnochan, head of the
Strathclyde Police's violence reduction unit, said the problem was
chronic and restricting access to drink and limiting the sale of
knives would at least reduce the problem.

The study, by the UN's crime research institute, found that 3 per
cent of Scots had been victims of assault compared with 1.2 per cent
in America and just 0.1 per cent in Japan, 0.2 per cent in Italy and
0.8 per cent in Austria. In England and Wales the figure was 2.8 per
cent.

Scotland was eighth for total crime, 13th for property crime, 12th
for robbery and 14th for sexual assault. New Zealand had the most
property crimes and sexual assaults, while Poland had the most
robberies.

Chief Constable Peter Wilson, president of the Association of Chief
Police Officers in Scotland, questioned the figures. "It must be near
impossible to compare assault figures from one country to the next
based on phone calls," he said.

"We have been doing extensive research into violent crime in Scotland
for some years now and this has shown that in the vast majority of
cases, victims of violent crime are known to each other. We do
accept, however, that, despite your chances of being a victim of
assault being low in Scotland, a problem does exist."

"Restrict the sale of knives"? are you bloody kidding me? What are they gonna restrict next? I saw a movie where they killed somebody with a pair of "Stilleto" heels. "We must ban dangerous footwear" :barf: :barf: :barf:

We must ban movement of any kind period. Everyone should be restrained and linked together with a giant neural network, where we can all interact safely in the matrix...

Their point is that there is still not enough gun control!!
Keep in mind that gun control =people control!!

"Political power comes from the barrel of a gun and the gun must never be allowed to fall from the grasp of the Communist Party."

---Mao Tse Dong

Think about that quote the next time Chucky, the little Democrat doll, or "The smartest woman alive" or Ted "I didn't kill that girl" Kennedy starts saying how we need "common sense" gun control!!!

It's more like "communist sense" gun control!!!

I dunno about that Matrix stuff... it sure didn't work in the movies ^_^

PVC outfit... $450
Ammunition... $75
The look on that guy's face back there... Priceless.

I heard they were also trying to ban belts, because people were using them as flails. :banghead:

Guns get outlawed. Guns go underground. Get an AK for a few hundred £'s and so forth thanks to Eastern Bloc Imports Tm.

But why bother when you can do it all with a £5 knife?

Your victim is disarmed legally and no doubt has nothing. You can cheaply buy a weapon that intimidates and if they put up a fight can kill because knife > fists, nine times out of ten.

Any other time it's because that bloke looked at my missus' etc, have that in your stomach mate.

Guns aren't the only weapons in the world.

My kitty is more scientific than that.

Wasn't it telephone interviews that produced the "2.5m defensive gun uses annually" statistic?

AAARRRRGH!

The madness has infected Scotland, too. Violent crime is NOT a public health issue. Disease is a public health issue. Sanitation is a public health issue. Violent crime is a criminal justice issue.

Weren't you paying attention?
Violence is a cancer in this part of the world," he said.
It's cancer. Let's try radiation or chemo.
Sorry. I stand corrected. So you're saying if I am assaulted I shouldn't dial 9-1-1, I should go to the nearest research hospital and ask for the oncology department? Got it.

Exactly. And if the threat is serious enough, call the Center for Disease Control as well.

Oh goody another useless UN poll or study.

Anyone ever notice how said studies seem to run down the more traditional societies.
I mean rather than pointing out the numerous incidents of tribal violence and genocides in many of the third world septic tank residue countries that like to point out the flaws of every one else in order to deflect attention from themselves. The UN is now under the control of Ali Babba and the Forty Thieves and the best way to ensure the ability of thieves to steal, kill, rape, and murder is to cause a distraction elsewhere in order to deflect attention from the fact that they can not clean up their own acts.
(Hold on Anti UN Bash/Rant starts here as I place my foil hat on my head and check the sky for Black Helicopters). :scrutiny:
Never forget to consider the source of the information, in this case a group of third world thugs and dictators that want to implement gun bans on the United States and others by treaty in our case in order to circumvent our Constitution and make it so that they no longer have to fear the populace when they implement the New World Order. :what:
As far as poor Scotland goes if you had been occupied by Wh***ers for centuries you might be a bit self destructive and hopeless as well. For them I guess it is better to “Die Fighting”, (even if it is against themselves) “Than to Live on Their Knees”.
